Question about Smeg Dishwashers

Open Question

We have had difficulties with our older SMEG dishwasher model no. PL 672 EB. The timer would stick on one position indefinitely and my wife would have to manually turn the knob to advance the cycle to the end. I ordered a new timer (being located far outside the city - virtually no service out here) and have installed it. I disassembled the old timer and found some stripped gears explaining the failure. Problem: the new timer also seems to have stopped mid cycle. Started at 7 AM on normal cycle and setting the rotary switch to 2, the unit was still running with hot soapy water at 10 AM with the rotary switch at 4 where it would normally stop. The operating book is not very helpful saying nothing about how long cycles should run. I need some suggestions to help troubleshoot. I am a retired engineer, and so can speak the language of a maintenance technician. Any assistance would be most welcome.

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Here is the site for smeg usa, you should be able to locate a manual for your appliance there. You will need to double check the model number of your appliance.

Re: SMEG Integrated Dishwasher ST663. I'm having

usually a screw on the striker (the bit sticking out that goes into the door) it will be a slotted adjustment so just loosen (not remove) the screw and pull it out a mm or 2.
retighten and test.
Also, clean the seal. While your at it, the sump filters and spray arms.

Smeg ST660 not starting

Switch the power off. Remove the 'built-in cupboard' panel from the front of the dishwasher and you should see the end of the timer spindle. With the power off you can turn this clockwise using another appliance knob or carefully with pliers. I think one 'start' position is with the flat section below the centre and horizontal. If the two lights are not on then try the 'start' button second from left to advance the timer.

Smeg integrated dishwasher continually washing - won't move to drying cycle.

you should check the heating element. if the water is not hot enough, the timer will not advance. crack open the door mid-cycle. let the water stop flying around. then open it all the way up. if you don't get a big ball of steam, you have an indication that your heating element may not be working properly. this is not too hard to check the resistance with a multimeter and then replace, if necessary. good luck

Kenmore Dishwasher 587.15163401 knob stuck mid-cycle

See if it is stuck on a water heat cycle. if the heater circuit or the thermostat is not working properly it will continue to run looking for a rise in temperature. If these are in working order the timer it self could be sticking and not advancing.

Smeg oven SA 392 EB - technical difficulties

first of all the yellow/orange light glowing is a known fault. it needs a slight wiring modification to fix it, however it dose not affect the operation of the oven nor is it dangerous.
now to the heating problem, there is a round element at the rear witch surrounds the fan. is this element getting hot? if not then it most likely needs replacing. it could be the thermostat but more likely the element.
