Question about Dell Latitude E4300 Notebook

Open Question

When I turned my computer on this morning it said that it could not recognise the power cable and gave a number of options: reset power cable F1 to continue F2 I believe was reconfigure computer to attached power cord and there were a couple of other options I unplugged the computer so it was running off its battery and hit F1. Now it gets to the Guardian Edge smiley man screen asking you to press CTRL ALT DEL to get to logon screen. Pressing these keys does nothing. I have rebooted the computer and it gets to the same point although now gives no errors about the power cord.

SOURCE: Latitude D600 beeps twice

Sounds like you have a video card problem.

To run the Dell diagnostics perform the following steps:

  1. Shutdown the computer.

  2. Press and hold the <Fn> key (next to the <Ctrl> key), then press and release the power button.
    Release the <Fn> key when:
    • The keyboard lock symbol lights begin to flash AND/OR
    • In the upper left corner of the screen shows Diagnostic boot selected

  3. The diagnostics testing automatically begins.
It may take a few minutes before any alert tones are heard.

  4. Watch the screen for images such as the Dell logo, progress bars,or lines of text and/or listen for beep tones that sound similar toMorse code.

  5. If the screen does show an image, write down the codes that appearon the screen. If the screen does not show an image, write down thebeep tones that you are hearing.
    • Before going further, please click the link to listen to an example of a beep code. Sample Beep Code
    • The beep codes will begin with a quick series of high pitched beep tones, then a pause, then 3 sets of beep codes.
Write down the 3 sets of beep codes that you hear.

    • If an error code is recieved, scroll back to the top to "Choose an option"and choose "A beep code is heard or an error code is seen. The beep code is not 3-3-3 or 3-3-4."
    • If there is no error code, continue with step 7.

  6. After approximately 2 minutes the system produces a single alert tone and should display colored bars with the prompt Were color bars displayed? (y/n).
The alert tone is repeated 6 times, once every five seconds for 30 seconds, then the second test automatically begins.
Press the <N> key on the keyboard to skip the timeout and immediately start the second test.

SOURCE: A disk read error occurred. the comp. said press ctrl+alt+del

The computer cannot find the operating system, the disk error message means it cannot find the hard disk, you most likely have a faulty hard disk or less likely a faulty disk controller.

You can test the hard disk by removing it and connecting it to a USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer cannot detect this drive as an external drive then you will know your hard drive is faulty ad you need to buy a new one and install Windows and programs etc..

SOURCE: windows XP won't load - black screen

Refresh all the connection on your motherboard like ATX power supply, HDD and CD/DVD ROM cables, and specially the RAM. You may have to clean the RAM as shown in the image below. c4d62f6.jpg
then hopefully your computer will return to normal. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: cant reboot

Good day sir/maam, the reson why it froze is caused by a bad memory module, you may need to replace it. Open up your computer and locate the memory modules, remove all memory modules and bring it to a computer vendor for testing. or if you have the cash, better buy a new one. make sure that what you install on your PC be it tested or new is good.

Pc cant recognise keyboard and mouse it says press any key or press f1 for setup

Try another mouse or keyboard. If symptoms persists, reset the motherboard by:
1. turning it off. 2. unplugging it from the power outlet. 3. open the side panel (check your manual on how to do it.) 4. once the panel is opened, locate the coincell battery from the motherboard and remove it. you can use a pen to remove the battery. 5. let the computer boot without the batt. -6. turn it back off then reinsert the battery.

Freecom 160GB Hard drive not recognised

Drives do fail Nick. Is it powering up [power supply problem?] Plug it in and go to Start/Control Panel/Admin tools/computer management/storage/ removable storage and disk management. See if the disc is recognised there. If it is not, and if the disk is spinning Try putting it into the deep freeze overnight. Plugging in next morning and if it fires up get as much off as possible before it goes down again.
