Turn it off immediately and take the device in for service. It could be a fan malfunctioning, which could lead to overheating problems. It could also be your hard drive failing, which leaving it on would only further increase the chance of that happening which would cause a loss of the data you have on the drive.
Shut it down and take the battery out for good measure. It isn't worth risking damage to your hardware or catastrophic data loss.
