Most times the compressor start relay and run/start capacitor may be defective. If the fans run yet compressor gets very hot on top it may be trying to start and cannot because those mentioned components need replaced. Pull away from the wall, unplug and lets remove the lower cover that hides the compressor. If compressor is hot it just may be short cycling because it need these components=> MTB1954ARW Compressor Components

Freezer is warming- up to 24 degrees now. something is running- should i unplug the freezer to keep the defrost fan from coming on until repairs can be made?

the fan is not a defrost fan? it helps to circulate the cold air into fridge and freezer. so when the fridge goes into defrost mode the fan and compressor stop running. if ur getting constant warm or heat? I suspect ur defrost timer is not coming out of defrost cycle? the heat is only suppose to last up to 20-30 minutes then back into cold mode? hers a trick u can use that may get u back into cold mode, locate the defrost timer in ur fridge usually at top center. then under the timer u will see a tiny slot or hole. if u stick a small screw driver into that hole and turn slowly clockwise till u hear it click? if its stuck in defrost , it will now come out of defrost and u should hear the fan and the compressor come on, hope this helps let me knoiw if u have any more questions

There is no cooloing effect

the coolling in a refrigerator occurs when the compressor forces freon thru the system and the expansion of gas in the coils of the freezer takes heat away thus cooling the fridge. if no cooling is happening then the compressor is not running, the freon is to low on the charge, or the small "cap" line from the compressor to the cooling coils is blocked. Unfortunately the compressor is the most expensive part of the refrigerator and if it has stopped this can be a expensive problem. there is a few other things that can make the compressor stop. there is an overheat protection device on the side of the compressor that once in a while opens up thus no electrical power to the compressor and no cooling. the other part that can fail is the cold control thermastat. if this opens up the fridge can't start the compressor because the open condition of the cold control never "calls for cold". the other simple thing that can stop the cooling is a totally frosted up coil condition. the air can't circulate around the coils so no cold gets to the inside of the fridge. simple test step one unplug the fridge for 10 minutes then plug back in. Do you hear the motor in the bottom run? If it runs wait ten more minutes and put your hand into the freezer compartment. Do the sides feel cold? if the motor (compressor) in the bottom runs but freezer doesn't get cold then the system is defective and there will be no easy fix. If the freezer does show cold then the problem could be with the "evaporator" fan that circulates cold. this is an inexpensive part and can be replaced at a reasonable cost.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it.Make sure the fan is running. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..

Freezer and fridge not cold

Sounds like you have a stuck compressor. The buzz is the compressor trying to run but cannot.
A refrigeration mechanic with an hermetic compressor tester can reverse operate the compressor to get it unstuck

REFRIGERATOR IS MAKING A BUZZING SOUND, not cooling

You have one of two problems going on. Your fan is spinning at hitting the sides. Or your compressor is shot which seems to be more the problem and even though it is cold the humming sound is a warning for you that the compressor is shot and it is more affordable to replace the fridge then the compressor. Sometimes compressor can cost more then the fridge.

Kenmore Trio: the refridgerator is not getting cool

In the Freezer or Fridge compartment, there is the Evaporator Fan (& Motor) If the freezer is cold, the Evaporator fan motor most likely went bad. Check to see that when the compressor is running, so should be the fan motor. If not, you have to remove it & replace it. It is not an expensive repair unless you call for service on it. Make sure that you unplug the fridge when you replace the fan motor.

Freezer and Refrigirator not cooling

You didn't say if the compressor is running or not. If it is and all other things you stated are running then it has a sealed system problem. The sealed system comes with a 5 yr warranty in most cases (check owners manual). If the compressor is not running then listen for a click at the compressor. If you hear the click then I would replace the relay on the compressor. If you need further help I will need the complete model # off the sticker inside the fridge section.

Fridge is not 'freezing', Looks like fan stopped working

could be due to ice build up jamming the fan. take back panel off and check for ice. if ice present the defrost system has failed. also on some models, the fan stops when door is opened. check door switch is operating

Refrigerator stopped working, freezer works fine

Sounds like the evap fan is not running. The fan takes cold air from the freezer to cool the refer compartment. If the freezer is cold the compressor is running. Generally the freezer will stay cold since the cooling coils are there but it must have the fan working to get the air up to the refer area. Pull everything out the freezer and take the back panel off to view the coils and fan, etc. It's a simple easy job to change the fan. If you find the coils are a total block of ice then it's another problem... the defrost cycle isn't working. Sooo... see if the fan is running in the freezer compartment first. See http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/Maytag/AA43-57.gif for fan location, item 18 is the fan motor. Let us know what you find out.
