Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

Our beautiful Bernina 730 sewing machine has been stored in the garage in its original case, and that wrapped in plastic, for a few years now. Temperatures have been both hot and cold in the garage, but the environment was dust-free. We have brought the Bernina in, set it up, oiled it as specified in the manual, with the original sewing machine oil. We have correctly threaded the machine and the bobbin thread is up. When we press on the pedal to sew, the machine gets electricity and buzzes, but there is no movement at all of the needle, feed dogs, or handwheel. What to do? We gave checked all adjustments to the machine that we know to do.

Or is it possible that you left the clutch is loosened on the wheel in the bobbin winding position? When you are winding the bobbin everything sounds normal except there nothing moves.

Check to see if the clutch inside the wheel was left in the bobbin winding position. The machine would sound normal but the needle and feed dogs don't move while you wind the bobbin.

Hello and thank you for using Fixya ....
From what you describe there can be only 2 causes...Either the machine is still stuck ..and the motor buzzes cause it can not spin it ..and in this case it needs to be oiled more..and be spun by hand until it moves well and free...and after that it will work ..or during the storage ..from condense or so ..the motor is stuck ..and needs to be checked...In this second case ..it probably need to be oiled too (the motor ) ..and the coils changed..
Have a nice day ..!

I received singer sewing machine 2623 machine and I do not have the manual. How can I get it and how do I fill the bobbin

Singer has manuals for most of their sewing machines available at their site. For the 2623, the manual is only available as a bound copy for $15. Go to http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals and enter the model number then click Search.

I believe on this model, you fill the bobbin with it on the metal pin on the top right of the machine. With a metal presser foot in place, bring the thread up and around the guide that pin. Wrap the thread a few times around the bobbin. Set the lever to the bobbin winding position and begin winding. Stop and trim the excess thread from your initial wraps after it is fully caught. Then complete winding the bobbin.

(On other Singer machines, you fill the bobbin in place with the bobbin cover moved halfway open.)

I hope this helps.

I have a Bernina 930 sewing machine. I read the advice from "dogdanes" about the basting unit seizing up and I think this is my problem. It has happened once before, and I NEVER use the thing, so...

Hi marjpatv,

With your Bernina 930 sewing machine where the flywheel won't turn and seems like it's frozen, sounds like it needs some oiling. You may want to try having it oiled first since it could be a possible cause of this issue. You may contact a local repairman to go to your place to have the machine be lubricated.

Hope it helps.

Thank you for using Fixya.

I need a manual as I have been given the machine with no instructions on how to use it. At least what sort of bobbin and how to load and put in place. It is a bernina 540 Favorit.

The manufacturer's website doesn't have a manual for a Bernina 540, but they do have a manual for a Bernina 530/531. I don't know if that will be of any help to you. The address is:
http://www.berninausa.com/webautor-data/486/BERNINA_530_531_manual.pdf
You will need Adobe Reader to view that PDF file. If you do not have it, you can download it for free from Adobe:

I have lost my sewing machine bobbin case

Hi, little ducke,

Can't do much sewing without a bobbin case!

I've had a difficult time finding information on your particular model. The best website I could find has pictures of the few different styles of bobbin case in Janome machines. I think if you look at the pics, you'ld be able to pick out the one for you.  Here's the website: http://sewingstyle.com/Janome-Sewing-Bobbin-Cases.html

I hope this helps. If it does, please place a vote or comment for me. Thanks,

I have the brother Ls-2000 sewing machine i threaded the top as well as the bobbin but when i try to sew the thread gets stuck and it bunches up and tangles in the bobbin. also the little bit that did sew...

adjust your tension. You probably did not wind your bobbin properly as well.Make sure you oil your machine every month or so and make sure your bobbin is seated properly before you sew.
Go slower with the pressure foot speed and use the right needle.ALWAYS test on scrap of your sewing material first!!!

I have this machine for like 2 years and can do 2-5oz cowhide and buffalo leather on it (no joke, and it works FLAWLESSLY) inside it has full steel construction, just needs regular oiling compared to pro machines and easily made a few grand $$$ with it while my pro machine is getting repaired (I don't even bother with my pro machine anymore) But you MUST oil it every month and use the RIGHT needle and adjust your tension properly
Also pull out the thread a good 6 inches from the needle and bobbin before dropping the pressure foot and sewing.
Best $70 bucks (WITH TAX) I spent hell, the leather I use costs more than the machine!

I have a Singer Imperial sewing machine, the bobbin winds in the machine, no manual with it. I have been trying to figure out how the bobbin is supposed to wind, I got it to do it one time trough trial and...

Does the bobbin have a metal "peak" on it? If so, drop it in the machine with the peak up. Slide the cover only about half way till the 2 arrows on the left match up. Thread the top as normal, put the machine in straight stitch. Thread the needle, then put thread under the foot and wrap thread around the post on the left. Leave foot up. Hold onto the end of the thread and start your machine. The bobbin should be winding now. After a few wraps you can let go of the thread and it should have broken off as you continue winding till the bobbin is full.

Hello

Disassemble your bobbin case which is realy quite easy, clean thoroughly with a brush and air, paying particular attention to any rust that may have formed, and any thread that may have weazeled it's way into small but very incremental areas of your case.

Make sure your needle is not in backwards. The rounded side should be on the outside

. If threading is correct and your tension is properly adjusted , then check the hook for scratches. If you have ever hit the hook with a needle, it will be scarred and will catch the thread every time the upper thread passes around the bobbin case. the hook is the sharp point on the shuttle that holds the bobbin case. If it is scratched, polish it smooth with VERY fine sand paper

Make sure that your thread arm that rises and falls, constantly having tension running through it and that it is in fact staying in place.

Alternate between the metal and plastic bobbins - sometimes the plastic bobbins tend to chip
