Question about Yamaha Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Hi, Yamaha - I just today purchased a new RX-V467 Receiver. I'm getting it set up, have the CD player working - but I have a question - I'm using a separate EQ unit that hooked into my old receiver's tape monitor loop. Can I use the spearate EQer unit with the 467?? How do I hook it up, so that I can process the signal both for recording, and for playback?? I see reference to this is the manual, but I want to make sure I'm doing it right before I start unplugging things....that could get very confusing... Also - which is preferable - to plug the CD player into audio inputs 1 or 2?? or into A/V inputs?? does itmake any difference?? TIA, Dave Gallagher dgallagher4@comcast/net.

Hi, BElectric - thanx for your response - at this point - I would only unput a cd player, and a tape deck into the EQer. no TV.

the way I had it before, i fed two cassette decks and a reel-to-reel machine into a switching box, and then ran one line to the EQer....then I ran that line out into the receiver. I still have that box , cables etc.

"You also need an audio out from the receiver direct to your recording device bypassing the EQ."
yes I would like to do that - right now, the cassette deck is the recording device, but I've been thinking of adding/replacing it with a digital recorder of some sort. I'd like to be able to process the sound.

how do I set up the "audio out" from the receiver to the recording device??

the EQ I use is an AudioSource EQ100 it has the following input/output jacks:

    Audio IN [from rec'ver]
Video IN [not in use at present]

    Main OUT [to receiver]

then it has its own tape loop -

    Tape In [play]
    Tape out [record]

Hello Dave -

To use the EQ for both playback and recording, ideally you would need to connect all of the audio inputs (CD, TV, DVD, etc) directly to the EQ and then run one connection from the EQ to the receiver. You also need an audio out from the receiver direct to your recording device bypassing the EQ. Basically, you need to process all of the audio signals pre-receiver.

You can connect the EQ to the AUDIO 1 or 2 input sockets or the L/R AUDIO IN sockets of AV inputs 5 & 6. AV inputs can be used for audio only. It's more logical to connect audio only devices to the AUDIO IN sockets, but as long as you select the correct input on the receiver, it's not vital to do so.

This is a fairly basic explanation. If you need further assistance, I will need to know the brand and model number of your EQ unit to see what inputs and outputs are available. It would also help to know how many devices you want to connect to the EQ and what they are. It you're trying to run video via the receiver to the TV as well, it's going to get more complicated.

Hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to me by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for getting back to me.

There are a few ways to do this, but I'd suggest you continue to use the switching box as before to avoid any crosstalk from the audio sources. Then run one line from the switch to the EQ and one line from the EQ to the receiver. I'd suggest using the AUDIO 1 or 2 inputs on the receiver for this, but you can use AV 5 or 6 if the dedicated audio inputs are being used for something else.

With regard to recording, you could continue to use the TAPE OUT from the EQ as before. Alternatively, you can connect the tape deck to the L/R AUDIO OUT sockets on the back of the receiver. The sockets output at a constant level which is not affected by changing the listening volume on the receiver. If you want to add a digital recorder and still use your tape deck for recording, use both the TAPE OUT on the EQ (ideally for the tape deck) and the L/R AUDIO OUT on the receiver for the digital recorder.

As you are using a separate EQ, you should also use the DIRECT mode on the receiver as this switches off the audio decoders in the receiver so there is no additional EQ / audio processing. Multiple EQs can be quite confusing and the EQ on the receiver has more limited adjustment and fewer frequency ranges than your EQ unit.

Hopefully, I've answered all your questions so far, but if you have any further questions, please let me know and I'll get straight back to you.

I think so...I looked at the specs on this and it does not have provisions for 240V. You're going to need a step down transformer from 240VAC to 115VAC.

How do i program for sony cd player

I also have a Sony CD player (CDP-XE330) and I have tried almost every code from the yamaha manual, but without success.
The only codes that yamaha remote supports, are the codes from the list in the yamaha manual. If none works, you are out of luck and the only solution is using the original sony remote (if you have one) or universal remote.

I have recently purchased Logitech Harmony 525 on eBay and now I control all my 7 devices with it without any issues. It is programmed via USB and Logitech has codes for almost 250.000 devices.

Input selector on my Yamaha RX-V596 stuck

Hi Dush

Sounds like the processor has locked up in the unit. Try powering it right down from the wall socket for a day to reset, and then retry operation. If that does not work, leave it disconnected for about 10 days to erase backup memory completely and then try again. Good luck. Don't forget to give me a "FixYa" rating if this works. If it doesn't, get back to me in here and we can talk more about it.
