Question about Kenmore Kitchen Ranges
When you bake the broil element also comes on with the bake element for even cooking,if you or a friend has a newer oven that's digital and you look at it on some of them it lights up showing you when the broil element comes on and when the bake element comes on and you'll see that the broil also works when baking, most likely you cooked one of the relays on the clock assy. and will have to change out the whole assy.even though the clock is working it's connected to a computer board that runs the machine,if you remove the back panel with the stove unplgged you can see the relay smoked.the broil should come on but it sounds like it's running all the time without the bake element.i would tell you to check just the bake element but if you saw smoke something deffenitely got cooked.hope this helps you out.

When the broil function is off, check for continuity between the broiler relay output terminals. If there is no continuity, check for an external short. If there is continuity when the broiler is supposed to be off, you need to replace or repair the board. You can get your old board repaired at appliancetimers.com.
