Question about Sharp 27DV-S100 27 in. TV/VCR/DVD Combo

1 Answer

Tamper proof LED is on. Blinks twice when power button pressed ( RC or local ). Will load a VCR and then eject, will open/close DVD tray. I have checked both power packs. I somehow have the feeling it is trying to tell me something.

Thank you. You nailed it, TV works perfect. The remote control was so dirty that I never saw the T.PROOF button or knew it was there. Only by my patience or the set would have been trashed. Thanks again. Lincoln Hubbard, N1ATU

Yes, very much so and also so prompt. I have been servicing TV's since 1950 and after rontine service on this set I could find nothing failed and was not ready to give up.
I will give you another interesting service. A TV brought in with a white line, no vert. Replaced IC, Set was back a few days later, no vert. could not find cause. Looking at CRT HV terminal - it was covered with a varnish like crud. Apparently HV would arc to the yoke, taking out the vert. IC. Cure = clean CRT HV terminal. I asked the owner if someone smoked at his house. Reply - There were two heavy smokers, one has died. Here is a case where cigaretes killed a TV set.
    Thanks again Lincoln Hubbard N1ATU

Hello there,

It's trying to tell you that you've (accidentally) activated Tamper Proof Mode. It will not allow you to insert cassettes or DVDs until it is deactivated.

To deactivate, press and hold the T.PROOF button on the original Sharp remote for at least 3 seconds. (Possibly up to 10 seconds).

Tamper proof LED is on. - belectric_140.jpg

This is the remote for the 27DV-S100 as listed above. If you have a different model, look for a button on your Sharp remote labelled T.PROOF or TAMPER PROOF and press and hold it for at least 3 seconds. If you don't have the original Sharp remote, please let me know the brand and model number of the remote you are using with the TV (if any).

Hope this helps. Please try the above, then let me know if you need further assistance, by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.

Regards,
BElectric

Why doesn't the open/close button on DVD player of DVD/VCR combo work?

Assuming there is not a forgotten tape stuck in the VCR side, the mode selection logic has gotten all confused. On the VCR side, a tape is grabbed and loaded to be played. There probably is an EJECT button that is enabled for later use. The DVD side is disabled so no buttons work. On the DVD side, the open/close button is enabled (if no VCR-side problem is detected), allowing you to place a DVD in the tray and close it to play. The VCR side is disabled so no buttons work. That's the theory. From your description a sensor on the VCR side may have failed or been damaged, causing the player to keep reverting to VCR and preventing use of the DVD side.

Your dvd is locked to a region code so will only play dvd's for region it was made for.
good news is that you can unlock most dvd players to be region free.

Unable to open the door of the dvd --when you press the eject button to open the slot---the door does not open---everything else works

Quick trick

First let's find out if the motor is dead or
the magnetic clamp is to strong for the motor.

Press eject then listen closely for the sounds of struggling motor
if you hear it trying SLAP the top right over the DVD drive
and that should break the magnetic seal and release the tray
you may have to try a few times Press eject and open hand slap kinda
hard the top of the DVD drive , don't worry you won't hurt it.

if that works email me and ill tell you how to fix this.

6. Repeat steps 1 to 5 for each device you want to
