I have a whole load of virsuses in my desktop. Cannot access the web sites that I use the most. How can I get rid of these without tearing my computer down and taking it to someone who can't get it cleared...

This is a malaware virus you have. This virus takes your directories and moves them so you can't connect to the webpages you want. Run a system restore to the earliest date you can. Back up all the files you need just incase. Than run a virus scan and download Ccleaner and run it. If this doesn't help please contact a licensed retailer who can assist you further. This has always worked for me so hope it works!

Hope this helps ^^. Please dont forget to rate, Thanks

Computer has viruses which might be why it has a the blue screen

Try entering safe mode and doing the virus scan:
  • Switch on your PC
  • Before the Windows Logo screen appears press F8 to get the startup options menu
  • Chose Safe Mode
  • Once your computer boots, run AVG and let it remove all the viruses. Reboot and it should go into Windows as normal. You might have to rerun the scan a few times to get rid of everything but it should do the job.

System restore cant restore computer to earlier times and ad-aware freezes mid scan

Go to a friends computer and search for "Trinity Rescue CD version 3.3", try to get build 321 or greater. Burn the ISO file you download on to a CD blank and then set the computer to boot from CD (This setting should be in the BIOS settings). Boot with the Trinity Rescue CD you just created and make sure the computer is plugged into a known good network connection (not a modem connection but a cable or DSL connection) chose item number 6 (I think) on the menu. Item #6 should be "Virus scan non-interactive" Be aware that you only have 10 seconds to choose the item you want from the menu before Trinity Rescue CD boots. use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move up and down the menu. After you choose Virus scan non-interactive, the computer will reach out to the internet and update it's virus checkers and scan your computer for viruses and rootkits. This might take a while. If you have a larger hard drive (80GB or larger) try this before you go to bed and let the Virus scan run all night. When it is done scanning (it will scan your hard drive with 5 different virus scanners) it will have a command prompt (DOS) type screen type "exit" and remove the CD and reboot your computer using the hard drive and THEN try to run Lavasoft ad-aware or Spybot Search and Destroy.

I am not able to open the "williams sonoma guide to good cooking" program. when I click "run" it just blinks two times and I only see the desktop.

It appears that you may be running without filename extensions enabled on your system. Every executable file should end with " .exe ". In older systems but not much used in today's systems except by virii and trojans are " .com ", " .sys ", etc, etc. I would highly recommend ' knowing ' what extension you are trying to run and having a very competent real time virus scanner on your system before ever clicking on an unknown file. The reason I have said that is simply one and one only. You mention the file blinks twice and then you see only the desktop which is often a lead-in to a major virus or trojan infestation. It is also possible that you are clicking on a compressed file without a compression routine loaded that recognizes the file, i.e. a Winrar compresses file when you don't have Winrar or similar enabled program loaded that can recognize it.
Please for the sake of your computer, KNOW what type of extension you are dealing with, then you will probably learn quickly what you need to do next. Not learning these most simple of necessary lessons will threaten your enjoyment of your computer and probably create a lot of frustration from an extremely enhanced probability of virual and trojan infestations. Just in case you don't already have a virus scanner, I personally recommend Avast Home Free from www.avast.com. I've been using it for over 4 years now with no problems, however that doesn't mean it or any other anti-virus product is perfect, only that it tries not to offend the operation of your computer while working hard to protect it also.
As far as enabling File Name Extension, go to Windows Explorer, Tools Tab, Folder Options, View. On that list you will see ' Hide Extensions for Known types ' which is enabled by default on XP and Vista. Disable that check mark. A computer operator should always know what he/she is executing and hiding that from the operator is a crime in my opinion.

High Speed and viruses

Slowness can be caused by viruses.

Run a virus scan and see what comes up.
If there are viruses on the computer, you may want to consider Restoring your computer to factory settings.

But before you do that
Run a virus scan; go to Symantec and run it or download AVG free.

If you decide to restore to factory settings, I will be glad to help you. Understand, you will loose everything on the computer, and you will have to run all your programs again, set up your network connection and email. Very time consuming.

Hiya ya, It sound to me you could be courripted with spy ware or a virus i will recommend using Ad-Aware SE Personal install this and run it! - you can find Ad-Aware SE Personal from this direct download link - http://software-files.download.com/sd/99nfDnO0WNfR5Wh8fucNAQf7N59p48yGyOq1e_XM8HIX6d0PeT0xd36uOth8kTloWoNAp4GOAh-Z2YdX8nf9afcV5NPn3Uc0/software/10639408/10045910/3/aawsepersonal.exe?lop=link&ptype=3000&ontid=8022&siteId=4&edId=3&pid=10639408&psid=10045910 This is a very good program i have been using Ad-Aware now for around 2 years and it's super. However if you have a virus you can use Avg_free - If you are already using norton or somthing like that REMOVE IT because personally Nortons Crap" Its not recommended - to remove your anti-virus go to Startmenu Settings/control panel /Add or remove Programs, Select the anti-virus program and press remove. After you done that! close all windows and open internet explorer with this link (explorer will open automaticlly) - http://free3.grisoft.cz/softw/70free/setup/avg75free_446a991.exe install that and run it on a virus check from the Avg test centre - If they don't work Then i would recommend a full deep clean for windows Xp But before you do that if you can Back-up any files that you want to keep as you need to Fully formatt C:/ drive (this is normally the drive that windows runs on) If you would need help at doing this On the telephone i can be contacted on * 0906 179 0906 (Call cost £1.50p/minute) @ all times. In the meantime take care And keep it hardcore = HTID = Hardcore till i die!
