Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

I recently tried to fix my ge potscrubber dishwasher that wasn't running, I pushed the fin portion of the motor that was stuck in place. The washer runs great but now leaks near the pump but only when the washer is on/draining.

This is a common problem with this pump. The only solution is to replace the pump
assembly. The price is between 75 and 100 dollars for the pump (usually).
This motor also had issues with the fins breaking off and becoming lodged
in the motor itself. The replacement is pretty straightforward but you must remove
the dishwasher from under the counter first. Hope this helps.

Dishwasher fills with water but won't run after that

Sounds like you have a bad (locked-up) motor. You MAY be able to unlock it. First, unplug your dishwasher. Then remove the toe-kick panel(s). I'm not sure of the model, but in most older GE dishwashers, you can see the back end of the motor facing the front of the DW. You should be able to see the cooling fins (fan blades, actually). Carefully, take a screwdriver and try pushing those fins to manually turn the motor. That may un-freeze the motor. But if you feel continued resistance as you try to turn the motor, or the fins keep "bouncing back", then the motor can't be freed up, and it will have to be replaced. Time to call a repairman (or depending on it's age, it might be better to go shopping for a new dishwasher).

Ge potscrubber 650 Dishwasher is humming when turned on and will fill but not wash and drain

This happens when the DW goes unused for a while. The motor is stuck. Open up the lower panels and move the Motor Fan by hand until it moves freely. This worked for me until a seal broke.

Freeing the motor may break the seal between the motor and pump assembly. I'm in the process of replacing that now.

Check for leaks by running the DW before putting the lower panels back on.

Potscrubber 900 Dishwasher won't drain

HI. check the following areas for faults.

1. Air gap / Drain hoses
If there is an air gap (located in the sink, near the faucet), check to see if it is clogged. Unscrew the top cap and see if there is anything blocking inside. Note: If there is no air gap installed, the dishwasher might not drain properly.

If the drain hose is clogged, the dishwasher would not drain. If there is an air gap installed, it is very common that a hose going from the air gap into the garbage disposer is clogged. Remove and clean the hose. Make sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher.

Note: If you recently had a garbage disposer installed, it is common to overlook removing the drain plug.

2. Broken belt
Some dishwasher models use a belt to drive the pump. Replace the belt if found broken.

Note: Sometimes the belt would just come off the pump. Even though it might not be broken, it is recommended that you replace the belt, because it is probably too stretched out.

3. Pump
Some models have two impellers inside the pump - one, wash impeller, takes care of the wash cycles, the other, drain impeller, drains the water out. If the drain impeller is broken (broken blades, shaft), the dishwasher would not drain. Replace any broken pump components.

4. Drain solenoid
Some models (for example most GE dishwashers) use a drain solenoid to drain water out. Sometimes the solenoid gets stuck, preventing the water from draining out. Try to free up the solenoid. If unsuccessful, you might have to replace the pump assembly.

5. Motor
If the motor is stuck, it is sometimes possible to free it up by manually spinning the motor.

Replace the motor if defective.

6. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

Water not coming into dishwasher

Without knowing the model number of your GE dishwasher, but some dishwashers don't notice when the float / float switch is stuck. That could cause the dish washer to move through all the cycles but never have water flow into the dishwasher. That would be the first place I would look. But please post back here with what you find (plus the model number of your dishwasher) before ou rate me level of helpfulness, OK?

I have a GE Potscrubber dishwasher that only hums, won't run

I have a portable that had the same problem. I called a repairman and he turned a fan blade on the motor. Mine is located on the right side about 12" in. It gets hung up when it is run often enough. If your problem is the same is mine all you have to do is turn the blade and it works like a charm. Hope this helps.
