Question about Apple iPhone 3G
Cannot import from sim card phone contacts to iphone 3G
Turn off the iPhone before inserting the sim, insert sim, turn on, import contacts. If you put the sim in the phone without restarting it for some reason it doesn't get all the contacts sometimes.

The problem is, for whatever reason, the new iPhone firmware does not allow special characters to be imported onto the new phone.
So the only solution is to:
Get a different phone.
Put your SIM card into that phone.
Access your phone book from said phone.
Delete any contact using characters other that A-Z. This includes !@#$%^&*() And the like.
Once deleted just pop your SIM card back into your iPhone and import. It should now work.

I bought iPhone from tesco and I had the same problem. I took tesco SIM out and put it in my old phone. Once sim was installed, I copied all my contacts in Tesco's SIM card. Once copied I removed the SIM card and put it back in iPhone.
And guess what? It worked!!!!!! hurray!!!!

Hi all. I have no idea why or how - but I was trying for hours to import from my t-mobile SIM to my new iPhone with no joy. I gave up and repaced my vodaphone SIM and pressed 'IMPORT SIM CONTACTS' for the heck of it.... and blow me down.... the flag came up saying it was importing and then all my contacts appeared!!! I have no idea why?! Hey ho! The wonders of technology!

I am having an identical problem to the original poster. I go to settings/contacts/import sim contacts and I briefly see a message that says "importing contacts from sim" but nothing happens.
The iTunes solution listed above doesn't work. It will present you with a "sim restricted" message. (It may work through iTunes if your phone is unlocked, but unless you're in Australia that's probably not the case.)
Also, DON'T try the solution listed above that says the iPhone only recognises A-Z characters. I just went through the sim contacts (whilst it was plugged into my old phone) and removed all non A-Z characters. For nothing. It still doesn't work.
I'm stumped with this now.... Very annoying. About to manually re-enter 200+ numbers :(

How to open the 3G iPhone or where to find the info

IPhone doesn't store contacts on the SIM card. If you want to transfer contacts between iPhones, you can use iCloud to backup or transfer content between devices. When it comes to import contacts from SIM card to iPhone, users will only need simple steps.

What I did is used my old iPhone where my contacts were saved initially. Transferred the contacts from my old iPhone to my PC in the form of vCards via using this tool.
Next, imported the contacts to my new iPhone as per the video below:
This helped me put the contacts to my new iPhone.

Here's how I solved this: My old sim with my contacts was Fido. My new sim was Rogers.
1. I took out all sims, then turned off phone.
2. Inserted Rogers sim, then turned on phone.
3. While phone is on, I took out Rogers sim and inserted Fido sim.
4. Tapped Import sim Contacts, and it finally worked.
My itunes was giving me warnings whenever I inserted the Fido sim except when I did it this way. Good luck! I know how frustrating this can be.

I tried it and it does work. Are you sure you've copied your contacts from the old phone memory to the SIM?
