Yes, i put my old sim in just to copy the contacts and i hit the "import contacts to sim" selection but nothing happens. I can't believe they haven't offered an effective solution to importing contacts!

  • Anonymous Aug 26, 2008

I have tried importing my contacts numerous times, and it is not working. O have looked at what is on my SIM card, and the contacts are their, but will not copy.

same **** here, what do they expect to retype 245 contacts with names and address ? anyone has a solution for this ?

  • mjtourig Sep 11, 2008

Same problem here - although the last time I tried it randomly imported 4 of about 60 contacts....

I had a tmobile sidekick and I made sure to save the contacts to the sim. When I look on my old phone I can only see the sim contacts. But when I try to import sim contacts on my iphone it flashes up a notification for one second and then nothing happens. I've let long spans of time go by before I tap another key, but its just not processing them the from the sim.. any ideas?

  • SkyboltX Dec 17, 2008

well... same as everyone else. it just flashes a notification and the nothing, not even some "random" imports as someone posted.

nothing... and simport is nowhere to be found for 3g.

Turn off the iPhone before inserting the sim, insert sim, turn on, import contacts. If you put the sim in the phone without restarting it for some reason it doesn't get all the contacts sometimes.

The problem is, for whatever reason, the new iPhone firmware does not allow special characters to be imported onto the new phone.

So the only solution is to:
Get a different phone.
Put your SIM card into that phone.
Access your phone book from said phone.
Delete any contact using characters other that A-Z. This includes !@#$%^&*() And the like.

Once deleted just pop your SIM card back into your iPhone and import. It should now work.

Hey guys,

I bought iPhone from tesco and I had the same problem. I took tesco SIM out and put it in my old phone. Once sim was installed, I copied all my contacts in Tesco's SIM card. Once copied I removed the SIM card and put it back in iPhone.

And guess what? It worked!!!!!! hurray!!!!

Hi all. I have no idea why or how - but I was trying for hours to import from my t-mobile SIM to my new iPhone with no joy. I gave up and repaced my vodaphone SIM and pressed 'IMPORT SIM CONTACTS' for the heck of it.... and blow me down.... the flag came up saying it was importing and then all my contacts appeared!!! I have no idea why?! Hey ho! The wonders of technology!

I am having an identical problem to the original poster. I go to settings/contacts/import sim contacts and I briefly see a message that says "importing contacts from sim" but nothing happens.

The iTunes solution listed above doesn't work. It will present you with a "sim restricted" message. (It may work through iTunes if your phone is unlocked, but unless you're in Australia that's probably not the case.)

Also, DON'T try the solution listed above that says the iPhone only recognises A-Z characters. I just went through the sim contacts (whilst it was plugged into my old phone) and removed all non A-Z characters. For nothing. It still doesn't work.

I'm stumped with this now.... Very annoying. About to manually re-enter 200+ numbers :(

IPhone doesn't store contacts on the SIM card. If you want to transfer contacts between iPhones, you can use iCloud to backup or transfer content between devices. When it comes to import contacts from SIM card to iPhone, users will only need simple steps.

  1. Remove the SIM card from the old phone, and install it on your iPhone.
  2. Your iPhone may need to reactivate. If so, connect to iTunes.
  3. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Import SIM Contacts.
  4. Wait for the import to complete.
  5. If you swapped SIM cards in step 1, remove the SIM card and replace it with your iPhone SIM card.
  6. Open Contacts and make sure that the contacts imported.

For more help with importing contacts from a non-Apple phone, check the manufacturer's website, app store, or contact your carrier. After doing this, you will get the contacts in your iPhone.

What I did is used my old iPhone where my contacts were saved initially. Transferred the contacts from my old iPhone to my PC in the form of vCards via using this tool.

Next, imported the contacts to my new iPhone as per the video below:

This helped me put the contacts to my new iPhone.

Here's how I solved this: My old sim with my contacts was Fido. My new sim was Rogers.
1. I took out all sims, then turned off phone.
2. Inserted Rogers sim, then turned on phone.
3. While phone is on, I took out Rogers sim and inserted Fido sim.
4. Tapped Import sim Contacts, and it finally worked.

My itunes was giving me warnings whenever I inserted the Fido sim except when I did it this way. Good luck! I know how frustrating this can be.

I want to copy my sim contacts on my apple i phone 3 g, but am unable to do so... i went to setting from their i imported the sim contacts but that is also not functioning.. it imports but in contacts...

Hi there,
This type of errors occur when you jailbreak your set, if you want to copy your contacts from the sim try with another Sim in your phone, if it gives error with all Sims, then you can copy your contacts in the Outlook and then synchronize your contacts with iPhone,
To copy your contacts to outlook, take any nokia phone capable of connecting with usb to computer and nokia pc suite, make your contacts syncronize with outlook firstly from nokia,
when you got your contacts in outlook , connect your iphone 3g with computer, and itunes will show you your set, then go to info and sync contacts with outlook, click on apply and then sync, all of your contacts will be sync and you will see the contacts in iphone,
If you require more assistance regarding this, feel free to reply to this post

Move contacts from Tungsten E2 to iPhone

If the Tungsten has a SIM card you can save the contacts to that, put that in the iPhone and go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars> Import SIM Contacts. If that isn't a option you may be able to export as VCards and import them into Address Book if you use a Mac. I'm not familiar with a way to do this on a PC. Anyone else have a solution?

Import contact

Power cycle the phone first as sometimes it has problems finding the sim contacts if you insert a sim while the phone is already on. Then:Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Import Sim Contacts (near the bottom)
