Question about Acer Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have an Acer Aspire 5734Z, windows 7 home prem. Someone who knew nothing about computers gave it to me and said it didn't work, they didn't want it. So I gladly took it. First thing i noticed was it had soda spilled on the keyboard. Not alot, but after taking it apart there was some sticky down on the mb but not much. Keyboard's a little crunchy from it but that's fixable. Now I know plenty about computer internals, as I've built a few desktops but not knowing anything about this laptop leaves me with nowhere to start from. 2nd- it had no memory. So i purchased PNY 4gb (2x2gb) ddr3 pc3-8500 dual channel memory kit. put it in pushed power, nothing. By the way when you plug the power cord into the wall, the charge light comes on- at first it was red then i guess as it charged it turned blue. I'd almost swear before i noticed it had no memory and tried turning it on, you could hear it run but nothing else happened, i could be wrong as it took a week for the memory to get here in the mail. Anyway It doesn't do that now. The hard drive is good i plugged it into my desktop and did a once over on it. Any ideas where i should go from here, assuming the soda spill was the likely problem?

yea i think so too, but just because it's a BRAND NEW laptop i thought maybe i could try a few things first. I have mother board circuits and parts and pieces etc... there's nothing i could replace, resolder?

Soda is a nasty thing to get into electronics, it has a high acid content and conducts electricity too. so I would bet that the mother board is toast.

if you are a 'bench technician" and you had the schematic for the mother board you could try and find where the failure is, but i sure wouldn't want to do it. I used to be a two way radio technician and worked on the "bench" but as the world changed and chip capacitors and almost invisible resistors started coming out, I decided bench work wasnt' for me. you might try to buy another mother board for it, try some of your computer parts suppliers or maybe the company that made the laptop. I wish you good luck, I , like you dont like to give up on things, but somtimes.....
