Re No image at all. Almost like a cover is on the...
Hi, many thanks for your help, it's really appreciated!
I just want to clarify a couple of things
In recording / shooting mode, there is no image in the LCD screen and if used through viewfinder still no image (when a photo is taken and looked at afterwards), just a black screen as a resulting picture.
When viewing previous photos on the LCD screen (prior to the problem), that works fine.
If you still think that this is the CCD imager, then do you know whether the remedy from canon has a global reach as I'm in the UK. If I call Canon UK, will the same pledge apply - free to fix and outbound / inbound delivery costs are paid for?

Welcome to the world of Digital SLRs. There is nothing wrong with the camera. This is how an slr camera works. you don't get to compose the image on the display, you do it through the view finder. you then get to see the image a short time after it's taken. the duration can be changed in the settings. you then press the right arrow button. one above dustbin on left. to see all the pictures you've take.
Make sure you turned the camera on. Could be a bad cable. Best thing to get is a usb card reader. Some people report problems of bent pins because of removing and reinserting them in the camera. So be careful there. Re-Install the software that came with it from Canon. Or you can download it from CanonUSA. URL below.
choose your OS and download what you need.
Looks like ZoomBrowser is up to 6.1 now.
When I was using a video camera as a web cam using Netmeeting, I found out a few things which may help. Once the connection is made, the settings from the other end play a part in the reproduction at your end.
I.E. the image you are seeing at your end once connected to someone is actually their image, not yours. So what is really wrong is that their image is not appearing on your screan. Also, the size that they have selected controls the size of your displayed image etc.
Have you tried connecting to other people or only one. The problem may be at the other end.
