Question about HP Pavilion zd8000 Notebook

2 Answers

Zd8000 tries to start, beeps once and shuts off, then starts again, beeps once and shuts down in an endless loop. Worked fine two hours ago. The dvd drive light flashes and it sounds like it is checking for a disk.

Hi, I had the same issue with my Compaq Evo N610c. What I kept trying to fix it is unplug the battery and AC charger and drain the PC by pressing and holding the power button for few seconds. I also tried starting the labtop with out a battery with AC plugged in. I left it few a few minutes for AC to power the notebook on its own. I almost gave up but it finally worked. You have to be patient with the process. ALSO, you may want to try to get into BIOS by pressing F10 or 12 or 2 (it's different with different computers) go to boot or startup options and make your harddrive your first boot device.
I hope these suggestions help. Regards

Possibly overheating, or (hoping not to be obvious) flat battery? are you on mains?
try leaving it off for an hour see how far it gets, if its not getting as far as starting your OS then its a hardware problem, either overheating or possibly bad memory RAM
if it comes on in an hour, and stays on, check you were not blocking the cooling venr, (happens using laptops in bed)

if it comes on and goes off again after a period of use then try sucking the vent out with a hoover. as somethings causing overheating.
if still dead, take it to a repairer

Is there a way to totally reset a used ps3

Yes, but be careful if it has been soft-modded as you could end up in an endless loop. Read more about this by searching "ps3 error infinite loop". I'm not to be held liable for any damage or risk. With that said, to get to the recovery screen:
  1. With the PS3 powered off, press and hold the power button down until it beeps. Once it does, you could let go and it should power down.
  2. Once again, press and hold the power button down but this time listen for two quick beeps. At that point, you could let go and the system should bring up the recovery menu. It believe it's the last option that states 'full factory reset/restore (or similar).

Pico 301 turn on but can not be locked on any source it just keep running the auto source finder on and on endlessly

If the set has a source button on the set itself try to defeat it (unsolder) to see if it is causing this--more common than most people think.

Carried out an update, but now stuck in loop

Procedure for Entering Safe mode when PS3 is caught in update loop:

When you first turn on the PS3, it will not allow you to go into Safe mode. You must prepare it for this.

link for flash drive prep:
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/SystemUpdates/PS3/pc_update.html#update_PC

(This will not work for the drive that currently is caught in the update loop. You must take the hard drive out of the PS3 and temporarily replace it with another 2.5” SATA drive. Note: temp drive may need to be initialized… Connect drive to pc, right click on My Computer and select Manage… Then select disk Management… you will then be presented with a dialogue box that will assist in initializing the disk.. However, only initialize it… Do Not Format it!(waste of time) Once the disk is initialized disconnect it from external enclosure or shut down computer and remove disk)

From the top:

1.) Plug in PS3 and flip switch in back of PS3 to on. Red LED in front of PS3 should light up. Also, plug in Controller at this point.
2.) Hold finger to I/O button on front of PS3 – Green LED lights up
a. You will hear one beep, then another single beep, then a final beep and the PS3 will power off again and Red LED will be on
3.) Hold finger to I/O button on front of PS3 – Green LED lights up
a. You will hear one beep, then another single beep, then two beeps
4.) As soon as you hear the two beeps, hold PS button on Controller
a. You will then be presented with an options screen
i. Restart System -- leads back to update loop
ii. Restore Default Settings --
iii. Restore File System -- leads back to update loop (8002F14E)
iv. Rebuild Database --
v. Restore PS3 System --
vi. System Update -- will cause error
5.) You will then remove the temporary SATA drive from the PS3 and replace it with the hard drive that is caught in the update loo
6.) I am currently stuck attempting to Restore Default Settings and Im sure it will end in error, but i have to try all possible solutions.

try starting the computer in safe mode. As the computer boots keep pressing F8 until you hear a beep. The computer will or should start in safe mode, once it has everything will look big, don't worry about that for now, click on start>programs>accessories>system tools>system restore and choose a date for when you know the computer was working without any problems. Once the computer has restored it will shut down and reboot. When/if asked what mode you want to boot/start your computer choose start windows normally. I hope this helps.

I have an Asus p4s533-mx motherboard which boots and runs fine (sometimes). But when I perform a warm boot, it often won't pass POST. The beep code is one long and two short. If I power it down and let it...

The response from ASUS tech support - It's a standard Award BIOS, so they're the standard beep codes.

So I wrote the following on page 3-4 of my user guide:

1 long + 2 short = Video adaptor error
1 long + 3 short = No video card or bad video RAM

high freq beeps while running = Overheated cpu

repeating high/low = cpu problem

repeating (endless loop) = memory error

Computer shuts down and tries to reboot in an endless cycle

This sounds like a heat related issue.
Are you sure that the CPU fan is running and that the vent ducts are all clear?
You maye be able to get it cleaned out with a can of compressed air.
Is the computer new? If so, then it is probably not dust, but if it is more than a couple of years old, then that is probably the problem.

Disable or uninstall the Linksys software that manages and monitors the connection.

Use instead the Microsoft Windows Wireless configuration utility.

Shuts down with DVD-RW installed, works fine without

Since the hardware route is expensive, have you tried to upgrade the software/drivers for the drive?

It looks like there's an incompatibility between the software, OS and hardware.

Hope this helps :) Kindly leave a rating. Thanks..
