Question about Audio Players & Recorders

B&O Beosound 1

I have had my Beosound 1 for several years without any problems. Recently though it gets to a certain point on the 1st track of any CD it is playing and starts to skip until it finally stops playing altogether. If you then reload the same CD it plays fine. Not a massive problem, but we are planning on using the stereo at our wedding, so would like to get it sorted.

My Beosound 1 makes cracking noises after I turn it off. It's as if some parts are cracking. I'm not sure what's up.

I have the same problem. My Beosound 1 is currently being repaired. Apparently the CD-drive is defective and is being replaced. Cost 320 Euros!!! (I live in Germany).

Hi, It may be that the brushes on the CD spindle motor are getting dirty. A relatively easy fix, IF you know how to open a Beosound 1 without causing damage. I used to work in a B&O Authorized Service Center, and I suggest contacting the one nearest you first for an estimate. Most "normal" shops are most likely not prepared to handle the sometimes complex disassembly/reassembly issues.

Recently bought 2nd hand Cambridge Soundworks D-300 SE CD player. Wording on control buttons all worn off - don't know which button does what. Player will only play the 1st track on each CD, then stop

See http://img.canuckaudiomart.com/uploads/large/367658-cambridge_d300se_cd_player__excellent_condition.jpg for a picture of the front of the D300 SE to see which button does what. The 'first track only' issue could be for many reasons. Try cleaning the CD player lens and also checking the metal rods (slides) the laser runs on for debris. Really helpful and detailed instructions on CD player troubleshooting and maintenance are here http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/cdfaq.htm#cdgicl

Hi. Hope you can help me out here. Some1 is offering to sell me his NAD C521i CD player. Its been with him for 5 years. Is it wise to get it since it is already 5 years old (at least that i what the guy is...

This cd player sound great but have in mind it is fitted with NE5532 op amps in linedriver stage, but single trafo supply, and this player is a standard production line cd player. I owned one, i liked the NAD sound, and i think if you pay something like $100-$130 you will be happy. Also you ask if you shall be aware of something, in older nad cd player displays is sometimes defect, but easy to fix. Also the laser need to be adjusted often. (as in most cd players.)
Step from track 1 to the last traack fast and back to track 1 again, listen to music parts from track 1, track 4, track 10 track xx.
If the sounud is not choppy, if there are coming sound in both speakers and otherwise it sounds good then i think you can buy it without expecting major problems.

Cd player starts, but stops play by 2nd track

Sounds like tracking motor and/or gear problem!
Check for a small crack on the tracking gear.
Parts not avalible from Bose though, they'll only
fix as a "flat rate"!

My Sony CDP-XA7ES CD Player can play only up to 6 to 9 tracks depending on the length of the tracks n then stops.

replace the spindle motor. the motor's speed varies while playing cds and a worn motor will not keep to the correct speed for playback of certain tracks on various points of the disc and will cause skipping and even stop altogether.

hope this helps.

Player stops mid track and shows ''no disc''.

HELLO

Have you tried cleaning the lens? It's incredible how a dirty lens can cause so much grief! You'll need the CD player cover removed and powered off then get some isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud. Wet the bud but not too much get any excess moisture off.

Using a careful circular motion clean the lens, let it dry and try the player again. If this does not cure the problem, you may have a defective laser and that will need replacing.

ALL THE BEST (:-)

Hi Suzi,
I know you have adjusted the spring suspension, but I would be tempted to double check it as my system had exactly the same problem and it was the spring suspension at fault. The arrows should both be pointing to the left (away from the edge) if it is being used horizontaly.
If they are correctly positioned, I would move them to the vertical position, stand the system on its end and see whether it still makes the sound. If not, move them back to the horizontal position and try again on the bracket.
Good luck
James
