SOURCE: Epson Perfection V500 photo scanner, carriage unit unable to move

I solved my "red flashing light" issue by moving the excess film (scanning 120 medium format film - 4 slides in length) to the other end of the holder. Seemed the excess film was interfering with something. Now my images are upside down, but whatever, that's what PS is for.

SOURCE: I have an Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner

When you are sure that the DC cable has no breakages and makes contact with the main switch and yet nothing happens when you connect to the unit. This could only mean that the power unit inside the scanner or part of its components is burnt. If you can get the unit over to an expert to diagnose exactly which of the components if the power unit is spoilt and a replacement part can be ordered.
Hope this solution has been helpful?

SOURCE: WANT TO DOWNLOAD A USER MANUAL FOR THE EPSON V500

Epson Perfection V500 installed. My computer recognizes it and diagnostic note says all okay. B ut when I turn on the power of the scanner, the grren light comes on in the front for about 15-20 seconds and then the scanner makes a loud grating noise and the green light turns orange and keeps flashing. No scan is attempted. TGhe noise sounds like something that should be moving can get started -- but nothing moves when you look at it. Should I take it back where I bought it?

Preview window wrong size

At the bottom of the Epson Scan software is a 'Configuration' button, click it and a new window opens.

It defaults to the Preview tab, and at the top it asks the Preview Window size. On the right is a drop down list - Large, Medium, Small. Select your choice and click OK. Done.

I am trying to scan slides with Epson Perfection V500 Photo...I placed the slides in properly and press the scan button on the scanner. It scans the row of slides as they appear on the scanner bed. But...

You have to have the plastic slide holder (positioner) placed perfectly. Look at the "A" and "C" tabs on the plastic holder. If they don't position your slides over the center of the glass, you are using the wrong tab! Slides have to be back-lit, which is what the top cover does. It doesn't light up the sides of the scanner glass, only the middle.

Using epson v500 and can't get it to change the document size under image type in professional mode according to manual. scanning old B&W negatives 2 x 2 in size and it cuts off the image most of the time...

I had the same problem and have found my answer. I don't know if it's the technically correct one but it works.
When you open the scan page and it shows you the mode, setting, original document type, destination, adjustments, and then the preview and scan buttons. Under the Preview button you will see a box check marked for thumbnail. Remove the check and then do a preview scan. You should end up with a complete scan showing the slide (if you only scanned one), the open side and the surrounding blackened area too. Click on the picture in the preview and then draw an outline around the part of the picture that you want to use. Do this just like it you were going to do cropping of the photo. Once you have the box around the part you want click on zoom. Your next preview will be the picture that you want. I haven't figured out how to remove the remaining blackened area with out going into a photo edit program but it must be able to be done. Then you can scan to where ever you save them to and have the whole slide. I hope that this gets you at least some what further along.
