Question about Zhone 4PORT ADSL2+ MODEM BRIDGE/RTRW/BRCM TR069 & INT P - 6218-I4-200 Wireless Router

2 Answers

I have a Zhone router, model number 6218-I4-200-0CL. I'm trying to figure out how to forward a port, but there is no actual "Port Forward" option under the configuration options. There is "Port Trigger" but it doesn't seem like that's the same thing. Would really appreciate some help.

I added that port as an exception under my firewall a while ago. I tried turning the firewall off, as well... Still no beans. I'm pretty techy when it comes to computers, and this... it's just driving me absolutely up the wall. Doesn't make any sense.

Please follow the guide here... It's for a different Zhone model - but it should work exactly the same!

Well, the configuration window looks exactly the same, but it doesn't seem to be working. I'm using the PortChecker from the same site you linked to, and it says it can ping my router, but the port isn't open/reachable.

Make sure Windows Firewall is also set to allow traffic from/to that port; Alternatively, turn Windows Firewall off. Do the same for any other firewall software (If exist) on your computer.

The port has been an exception on the firewalls settings for a while. Turning the firewall off doesn't seem to fix it, either.

Now I'm having yet another issue--I can't access the configuration page at all. Was working earlier, obviously... Now it returns a "This webpage is not available" error. This router is epic fail.

In many router is under the function of virtual server, in your case it looks like the Zhone people has put this function under Firewall - IPFiltering - Incoming.

Let me know if you need more help.

I'm sorry, I don't even see IPFiltering on my configuration screen. I see Firewall, but the only options under it are Parental control and URL Filter.

    You are right, my mistake.

By looking more in depth I understand that you have to enable NAT and then you can create virtual servers.

    Please let me know.

I'm sorry, I'm slightly confused--are you saying that I should set up a virtual server in order to forward a port??

  • Massimo Ardito
    Massimo Ardito Mar 18, 2011

    Yes, absolutely.

If you want to forward a port in some router is called port forwarding (Netgear) in other one virtual server (Belkin).

Please go to your router configuration, enable NAT and then select Virtual Server.

Enter a name easy to remember in the field Custom Server or you can select some of the already pre-configured proposed if you find what you need.
Then in the field Server IP address put the name of the PC you are trying to forward your port for example
Now select the external port start and end (It could be the same value if it is only 1 port) and then enter the internal port start and end.
Do not forget to choose the protocol if it is TCP or UDP or both.
Click Save/Apply and you are done.

Here an example of a possible configuration for:
    192.168.1.(Your PC) 5900 5900 TCP 5900 5900
    192.168.1.(Your PC) 20 21 TCP 20 21
    192.168.1.(Your PC) 63940 63940 UDP 63940 63940
    192.168.1.(Your PC) 63930 63930 TCP 63930 63930

I hope this can help, otherwise let me know.

Need to change the NAT setting on my Zhone 6218 DSL modem. How?

try these simple steps...

connect your computer to one of the LAN(wired) ports of router...
check the ip address and default gateway of your local area connection through control panel > network connections.... if you get the ip adress in the range of dlink router then try going to start > run > type "cmd" and hit enter >command prompt will appear... in command prompt type this

start iexplore(default gateway address) and hit will see the settings page of your modem.... go ahead and disable firewall and enable dmz for your ip address... also forward the ports that are necessary for your gaming device...

Mtu setting

In some cases, MTU is not necessary to adjust. Its always automatic and defaulted to 1500. The router model that you have doesn't have MTU settings. You can download the User's Manual HERE. You must do port forwarding and open the xbox live port so you can play xbox live. If it keeps on telling you about MTU, you must set static IP address on your xbox's settings and power cycle your devices.

When using utorrent or any other torrent client it says i have problem with my network configuration

You'll need to forward the port you have selected in your BT client (you can set it / checj ut in uTorrent: Ctrl+P -> Connection -> Port used for incoming connections. It should be something between 40000-52000.) to accept incoming connections.

Unfortunatly there is no guide for your router model, but you can help with this one, also port forwarding is referenced in your owners manual, so you should check that too.

NAT? Where?!

Perhaps you are using a different firmware than the one they are using in the guide. If they are using an older one then you may just need to figure it out. Look through your router's settings again for anything that mentions NAT, Port Forwarding, or Virtual Server. Then just pick the port (or ports) that you want to forward and which machine to forward them to.

One last thing that may be causing your issue is that you are not connecting to your router. Does the configuration page that you visit display your routers make or model? If you have a modem and a router, then it's possible you are actually connecting to your modem instead.
