If the toner is rubbing off on your hands, you have a fuser problem. It isn't getting hot enough to melt the toner.
Why you're not getting an error message is another problem.
Since you failed to let us in on what kind of printer you have, this is all the info that I can give you.

I am facing a problem in HP laserjet P1102. printer shows "Install Black Cartridge" when I have tried my best to resolve the issue. I am a technician and many printers come for this problem to me. I

#1-Remove the ink cartridge and use a q-tip and alcohol to clean the metallic portion of the cartridge. Gently slide the q-tip back and forth across the ink distribution openings, ink should cover the q-tip. dab dry with a paper towel and replace into the printer. #2-With the ink cartridge removed...Check the prongs on your printer that press against your ink cartridge when in place for connectivity. If covered with dry ink, use said q-tip and alcohol to clean. #3-replace the ink cartridge with a new one. Be careful, and gentle with your q-tip, rub easy, and let dry before proceeding. Be safe...and have plenty of paper towels on hand.....wear rubber gloves.....

BLACK STRIP ON THE LEFT SIDE ON MY PAPER??? I HAVE A HP LASERJET 1022NW....WE HAVE CLEANED AND BLEW OUT THE PRINTER....STILL NO IMPROVEMENT....WHAT TO DO NEXT....

Run the 1/2 print test.
Put paper in the manual feed tray. Print a few pages of anything. As the paper gets about 3/4 of the way into the printer, open the cartridge door. Pull out the cartridge and look down at the paper. If it has the black stripe on the left side, replace the toner. In fact at this point, pick up the toner cartridge and gently swing the shutter open and look at the drum. You should be able to see a black stripe on it.

By the way, the toner hasn't been fused to the paper at this point. It will rub off on hands and clothes.
If the 1/2 test shows no stripe on the paper...replace the fuser.

How to refile the cartridge of canon pixma ip1300 printer

Hi,
Instructions :
  1. Remove the old ink jet cartridge from the printer following the manufacturer instructions. Close the lid on the printer to keep it free from dust and debris while you are refilling the Canon ink cartridge.
  2. Locate the ink tank on the cartridge. Put a 3mm drill bit in a drill. Drill a hole in the top of the ink tank on the cartridge.
  3. Gently insert the needle on the bottle of ink into the hole you just drilled in the ink cartridge. Avoid squeezing the bottle until the needle is completely inserted in the ink tank.
  4. Squeeze the ink bottle gently to refill the cartridge. Fill the tank with a little at a time until the cartridge is full.
  5. Remove the needle from the ink tank. Wipe the top of the Canon ink cartridge off with a paper towel. Place a small piece of duct tape over the drilled hole. Rub the tape to remove air bubbles and to make sure it adheres to the cartridge.
  6. Put the refilled ink cartridge back into the printer. Clean the head of the printer by running the printer software and following the instructions for head cleaning.
Good Luck!

Changed the drum & ink cartridge in HL-1440-ink bleeds on edge

Hi there,

This problem is often caused by spilled toner. Open the printer, carefully remove the cartridge, and give it a few bursts of compressed air. Often running several pages or type through will also fix this. If it persists, replace the toner cartridge.

Hope this initial info/idea helps. Let me know for any clarifications.

Dell 3110cn Color Laser Printer Certain colors will not adhere to the page when printed on heavy paper. Combination of green/black wipes off the paper when rubbed.

Either the paper is just too thick for the printer to fuse the toner correctly, or you've NOT selected the right paper type (in the printer driver options.

If you're just printing that same as you would on ordinary A4 paper, the fuser can't get enough heat through the thick paper to fuse the toner.

May be a wrong toner problem if you've done this successfully before, but only had this problem since changing toner cartridge(s)

The toner of the printed document does not adhere quite well on the paper. Wipping wich the pand over the paper the toner will come off partly. I thought it was a problem of the toner, however after buying...

If you've been using Okidata original cartridges then it sounds like there's something wrong with the fuser unit in your printer. The fuser is what heats the paper to "melt" the toner onto the page. If you haven't been using Okidata cartridges, the one you purchased could either be laying down too much toner or low quality toner that can't be properly adhered to the page.

HP Photosmart C6280 paper jam--won't print (of course), message reads 'add paper to main tray'

Please try this to clear the paper jam

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.

Ink rubs off or prints double/messy

Sounds like your fuser is getting ready to stop working. Your fuser creates the heat so the toner from the cartridge is baked onto the paper as it passes through, your toner is rubbing off, so you could try cleaning, but I'm sure it'll be a new fuser, or possibly a fuser roller. Your owners manual has all the information and step by step trouble shooting guide to let you know.
