Question about Philips CDR770 CD Recorder
discovered that it sometimes may be the disc(s) used. If I use cheap
quality blank discs, I have had this problem. I use the manual record
extensively with high quality discs recording from vinyl with no more
Have you selected the correct input? These recorders are desinged to stop after 20 seconds of silence. Do you get any level showing on the record level meters? Press the source button until it shows 'analogue' if recording to the 2 phono inputs.
With the CD stopped press FINALIZE. The display will show FINALIZE CD and PRESS RECORD.
Do as instructed. It will say XX XX FINAL and will count down the time remaining to finish the finalization process.
Do Troubleshoot cables....

Welcome to Fixya. Please check the link below for the installtion guide if you properly installed the CDR770 CD recorder. Then try to use a different CDR or CDRW media to see if the problem is the disk.

Hi, these recorders will only use discs sold as "Music CD recordables". The midcode on them tells the recorder it is permitted to use this media. Computer CD-R's do not have this in the midcode. When they were marketed, the Music industry gets a portion of the profit to "make-up for lost sales" due to the set-top recorders being easier for the average Joe to use. They must say "Music CD-R" or the set top recorder will not use them. Memorex was the last ones still in the market last I checked. I have a Philips CDR 785, so I do know from experience.

Tips for a great answer:

• Only audio CD-R/RW discs can be recorded with this unit. "Use Audio CD" will be displayed when a disc other than one
for use with audio such as a CD-R/RW disc for use with a personal computer or another type of disc is loaded. (See "Discs that Can Be Used with this Unit" on Page 5.)
• CD-R discs can be recorded to only once. The recorded information cannot be erased.
• The recorded information of CD-RW discs can be erased. When this disc has been finalized, erase after the finalization removal operation has been performed. (See "Cancellation of CD-RW disc finalizing" on Page 28.)
• Recording mistakes made with CD-R discs cannot be erased; therefore, it is recommended that a CD-RW disc be used until you are accustomed to the recording operation.
If you desire 74-minute blank disc just Google "cd-r audio 74". The unit will also use 800MB 80-minute CD's.
