Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Maytag LAT2301AAE Washer: The auger separates from the agitator. The auger then "floats" and does don't agitate back and forth. It appears the "teeth" inside the auger are worn out. Can I order just the auger part? If so, where and what is the part number?

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

You will need to type into your search engine/web browser '(make) washer spares' and you should be presented with a number of sources from which you can order. During the process you will be asked for the actual model number.
Alternately you could try telephone directories for spares suppliers but I would think the former would be more successful.
Good luck,

Tub does not move during wash cycle;just keeps filling;timer jumps from 25 to 4:then drains;flashes OL(small loads)

First, OL/UL stands for "Overload", so in other words, the washer things the tub is too hard to move because it's overloaded and the motor is struggling or the unit is way out of balance causing the washer to struggle. The most common problem is a nut below the inner tub that needs to "float". Floating is when the tub fills up with water to a certain level the inner basket will rise about 1 inch from the center agitator. What this does is disengage the basket from the motor so that the agitator can rotate independently from the basket. If the basket does not float then when it tries to agitate the whole basket will turn back and forth at the same speed as the agitator and this will cause the OL/UL error code.

How to separate auger from agitator. whirlpool ultimate care II

When you look down into the agitator, are there 4 white plastic points that look slightly melted or otherwise deformed? If so, using a small flat head screw and a small hammer, separate the white plastic from the surrounding translucent plastic. Once you've done that, it should easily pull apart.

I havea Kenmore Series 70 Washer. I top agitator auger will not spin and suspect the dogs must be replaced. Question is how do you get the top agitator auger and cam driven separated from the bottom...

Take the softner dispensor out then you have a clear cap, remove that it just comes right out.
Then you will see a 7/16" screw take that out. Then the top will easily come out.

Very easy can do it in like 2 mins.

The hard part is lineing it all up to put it back in. Let me know if you need any more help.

I have a Kenmore Series 80 washer that agitates a little but is very weak. Spins Ok. Clothes don't clean very well. I need help.

Check the agitator by turning it back and forth. It should work like a ratchet (turns one way, locks the other way).If you're able to turn it in both directions, the agitator dogs are worn and need to be replaced. To do this remove the agitator cap and the bolt that holds down the agitator. With the bolt out you can remove the top section of the agitator (auger) where you should see 4 small white or beige plastic gears (dogs). Replace those and it should be ok.

Maytag washer model PAV3300AWW The auger slips up on the post and does not rotate properly. Ca the post be purchased seperately from the auger or must it be purchased as an assembly?

Go to searspartsdirect.com and type in your model number. The part(s) you may need are listed under the "Tub" heading as items number 1 (part #21001593) and 14 (part #21001530). To answer your intial question, yes, you can replace the parts separately. However, you will need to remove the upper auger and inspect the agitator base for wear or damage to be sure. You may have to replace both parts. To remove the agitator, all you have to do is remove the dispenser cap and remove the center bolt underneath. With the bolt removed, the auger and base should pull straight up and off. If you require further assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Loose Agitator

Usually, there is a bolt that holds the agitator on. If you remove the cap off the center of the agitator, you should find a bolt underneath that you can tighten back down. Adding a little thread lock to the bolt wont hurt.

I have a Maytag performer series machine, the main agitator is screwed down properly but the corkscrew agitatorthat is attachedto the main agitator completely cuts loose and floats to the top , i don"t...

With the Maytag Performa series, the auger is held by a pressure fit only - no screws. Mine failed after about 6 years. There is no (easy) way to repair this problem. The top auger does not stay attached to the post, and it floats off the post while washing... I ended up ordering a new one from the Sears 1-800 number. Easy to replace, and it comes with both the post and auger. Costs about $110, but certainly a lot cheaper than buying a new machine. The part does not come with the top cap for fabric softener, so be sure to save the old one. You do need a fairly long extension for your ratchet wrench to unscrew the attached bolt, but it is fairly easy to do.

MAYTAG LEGACY MODEL # SAV205DAWW

I've got the same problem. The diagram is a bit deceiving because it appears to show the agitator/auger as one piece. However, the bolt only holds the agitator (lower portion) and then the auger slips in place over that. The fabric softener cup then snaps to the top of the auger.

Best I can tell is that the slotted 'ears' on top of the agitator are worn thus preventing a secure fit between the agitator and auger. I just finished putting some hard thumb pressure on each of the ears and bent them outward some. The auger fits much tighter now and I'm doing a test run of clothes. It is holding but I will probably have to replace what they describe as the agitator / auger assembly, costs $53.54. I don't see any other fix but would appreciate further input.

Thanks
