hello, when u want to kill a virus in safe mode, try to kill it first from startup.
first u need a process explorer (this is a program), u can download it from microsoft, this is the link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.
it is portable and u just need to run it and see what process that running.
u can showing the path of the process by -> click 'view' tab, select 'select columns', mark 'image path' box, then OK.

now u can see the path of the process that already running. search one by one to seek suspicious program. (note: u can check it from company name too).

when u have find some suspicious program, u can googling the program name (example: svchost.exe..) to make sure the running program is virus or not.

if u have already define the virus, u can kill the process from safe mode (record the virus path, this useful in final) and delete the registry that created by virus from your registry (use regedit). finally u can remove the virus from your computer, just follow the path from process explorer that u already recorded.

DELL has a awesome feature most of the time.... they ship with a recovery disk where you can set back your PC to factory.

Now if its just the icons... go and make a right click on your desktop / Properties / Desktop / Customize Desktop >>> there you can check mark some of the default windows icons.

For the Windows office, it might have corrupted and might need to be installed again...

Other icons can be brought onto the desktop by Clicking on Start >> All Programs >> then right click on the program you want the short cut on your desktop and "Send to" >> Desktop (Create Shortcut)

Go to Start Menu > Run
Type "regedit" and press OK

Use the Find function from the top menu and search the registry for the file name. Delete it when you see it.

Be VERY CAREFUL, once you delete something in the registry it is GONE.
