From my experience, Buffalo is the worst brand when it comes to External Hard Drives. I had two of em already become faulty. I hope you have warranty because it sounds like you have a physical problem with the Drive. If it is not picked up by the computer, then that is not good because it will be most difficult to use file recovery programs. You may have to take it to data recovery specialists who can repair physical damage OR you can open it up and connect it directly into a desktop computer as another Hard Drive. (Sometimes possible if you know how). Good Luck

Instaling operation system when a Sata Hdd is not seen

I will show a trick about how to install an operation system when you have an erased sata Hdd ..and cause of the lack of a raid driver it is blocking the boot and not let you boot even from cd ...
Insert the boot-able installation cd ...choose to boot first from cd ..and to trick the computer just remove the power supply from the Sata Hdd ...This way you will make it go on and boot from cd ...Keep in mind that the primary drivers and files that are loaded when the installation starts ..are not stored on the it will not see the drive missing ...after it starts to load files...and before getting to the agreement ..just plug the supply back to the Hdd.. in this point the primary drivers will be already loaded ..and the computer it is already seeing the hard drive ...and will continue the installation like on any other one without any problems...
Good Luck !

I have an iomega eGo portable hard drive - i am able to load my music and files onto it from my pc - but when I plug it into my android superpad tablet, it tells me its damaged and that i need to reformat...

What is the format system for the external HDD? Is it NTFS or FAT?

If it is formatted on a PC then it might be NTFS and android will not recognise NTFS. You might have to plug it back into the pc and change the format system by reformatting the external HDD in FAT32 or exFAT.
To format the HDD (Hard disk drive) plug it into windows and when it appears on the screen (This Pc or My Computer screen) next to your C: drive, right click the HDD and select format and when the format window opens select the "File system" drop down menu and change it from NTFS. Then format it and plug it into your tablet to test it.

Ntlrd is missing

First I would backup the hard drive (save important data, docs, pics, files etc..). to do that without loosing data (hope the hard drive is not deleted or formatted prior to this)

you need and external box (ide/sata hdd caddy or cable) where you put your hdd in and plug it in ,externaly to an other pc or laptop.

if the other pc/laptop see your hdd then it' good news. try searching for you files and docs e.g.(C:\Documents and Settings\Student\My Documents )

after the backup try scanning your hdd using CHKDSK /f /r from the command prompt (start-run-cmd-enter then type chkdsk (disk letter) /f /r + enter) this might take few minutes.

put the hdd back and restart, see if it will work. If not, you might need to re-install the operating system.

hope this solution helped.

Not responding after flashing "loading" for 1 minute then get message R-Lk --:-- on display

Hard drive issue or power supply. Power supply prone to bad capacitors (look for leakage/swollen tops)
If hard drive faulty you'll need a new one which is no small task. Disk contains firmware and custom file system and smallest I've got image is 10.7gig
