Mic sound muffled static

Buy a better mic! This question reminds me of the musicians who invest in a nice JBL public address system but then use Radio Shack microphones. A good quality mic, not GREAT but just good will cost you a minimum of $100. Quit playing with toys and invest in real recording gear. Computers and hard drive recorders can easily record CD quality audio, and-so why would you use a $70 mic?

My microphone is not working. What do I do? Trying to use Skype, but microphone want work

Hi ldlw65,

Please follow the below steps to set up your microphone properly :-

  1. Firstly check if your microphone's cable is in proper order, if it has been damaged, then it's that physical fault which stops microphone from working.
  2. Now if the wire or cable of microphone is OK, check if you have connected your microphone in the correct slot , in your motherboard , usually there is a sign of mic besides the microphone slot.
  3. Then check for the control panel's sound and audio devices option , by going in your control panel, if you open it and go in the audio tab you should see your recording device as enabled.
If it's disabled then you need to install your audio driver's again.
  4. Now , if everything is ok till here , all you need to do is do a microphone check by going to sound recorder (start >programs>accessories >entertainment>sound recorder )in windows xp , in case you are using windows xp or any relevant software in the other operating system which records audio.
  5. Once you have the application like sound recorder try speaking on mic while you activate the record option , if you see that your sound is being recorded, then your mic is functioning properly, if it's not then you need to check if your mic is the current recording device.
  6. To check if your mic is the current recording device , all you need to do it double click on the volume icon on your task bar and you will have volume control box open , then you need to go to the options menu and choose properties.sajjad4help_2.gif
  7. After you choose properties you will have a radio button for recording , select it and you will find devices for recording , then make sure microphone is selected and click ok.sajjad4help_6.gif
  8. After you select ok , then you need to select microphone from the recording options to activate recording via your microphone.sajjad4help_7.gif
Now you should be able to use your microphone properly without any problems.
Your feedback would be appreciated.
Hope this helps ..)

I have a Behringer Mic C-1U and its not powering up!

How to Operate a Behringer C-1U

The Behringer C-1U is a USB condenser mic for recording individual instruments. A condenser microphone is a mic that uses vibrations produced by sound to change the distance of internal plates that produce signal. Condenser mics typically require an extra change, known as phantom power, to operate. Since the C-1U is USB powered, phantom power is not needed. The Behringer C-1U has a frequency response that favors sounds around the 10KHz range. This heightens the clarity of recorded signals due to the microphone's treble boost.

Things You'll Need:

* Computer with USB 2.0 port
* USB cable
* Recording software

Instructions

Turn on the computer. When the operating system loads, connect the microphone.

Install any necessary drivers for the C-1U. This will happen automatically when the device is connected.

Select the Behringer C-1U as an input source in any desired audio software. In Windows, click the "Volume" icon in the task bar to open the mixer. Select the C-1U as the primary input. On Macs, use the "Audio/MIDI Setup" in the "System Preferences" menu to select the C-1U as the primary input

Note: make sure you activate the phantom power on the mic. That's the only way to power up the microphone.

Have a nice day.

Son wants to buy CAD GXL2200sp studio microphone package and wants to plug into laptop. Will that work?

Hi,
for purposes of recording quality, I would recomend getting and external sound card. M-audio make a good range. You would need to have a +48v phantom power supply for this unit to work. The sound card you buy should have this. A Pc or laptop won't

The mic does not record stereo anymore. when playing back a stereo works fine but when recording in stereomodus only the left channel records, the right channel seems to record silence/noise

This Mic is not a stereo Mic. If you're using a windows computer, check your sound control panel to see if the mic wasn't suddenly set to two channel device.

Samson G Track USB Mic

To get sound in both channels in Garageband for a podcast using the G-Track Microphone:    select a voice track to record into    make sure the Track Info window is open (blue i button in lower right region of screen)    at the bottom of the Track Info window you will find Input Source:    Change the default setting of Stereo to Mono 1 (USB Audio CODEC)
This assumes you have gone to Garageband preferences and changed the Audio/Midi settings for audio input to USB Audio CODEC which appears when you plug in the G-Track Mike

Im trying to record vocals but the Mic is not picked up and i cannot hear myself in the headphones and it wont transfere to cubase.

It has worked before when i had a desktop, but this only worked with a separate m-audio sound card inside the desktop and i plug in the output jax leads from the desktop (soundcard) to the m-audio usb pre amp

Is this why it is not working for the laptop do i need a Jax connection and where is this audacity

No recording?

The static after several seconds seems like this is a problem with certain versions of OS X. You might be able to fix it by downgrading or upgrading. Apple Forums say that it's fixed in 10.5.6.

You can double check that this is the problem by trying it on a Windows computer.

No sound through M-Audio preamp and condenser mic

Hi micoach
The condenser mic you are using requires phantom power for it to operate. Pay to check that that is turned on m-audio. Just to be sure.you say you can get sound off the m-audio headphone socket. Just need to check that. You will need to check that you have selected the device for recording from the preferences--audio I/O options menu within audacity. Perhaps check these things and get back to me here if you still have problems.I can go into more detail with you.
