Step four: Manually install the driver
Make sure that the USB cable is not connected to the product. If the USB cable is connected to the product, disconnect it.
From the Windows taskbar, click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Devices and Printers . The Devices and Printers window opens.

In the Install the printer driver window, under Manufacturer click HP , and then search for your driver under Printers . If the driver does not show up under HP, try looking under Hewlett Packard.
The print drivers are displayed by their series names, which means the last one or two numbers may show as zeroes. For instance, the HP Photosmart 8750 displays as HP Photosmart 8700, and the PSC 1210 displays as the PSC 1200 series.
Once you find the appropriate driver, plug the USB cable back into the printer.
The Installing Device Driver Software window should briefly display in the bottom right corner of the computer screen. Wait for it to disappear.
Click the Cancel button on the Add Printer window.
The newly installed printer now shows in the Devices and Printers window.

Yes the Printer is compatible with Windows 7 both 32bit and 64bit, you can install the printer on Windows 7 without any eternal driver source, the drivers for this product model are already included in the Operating System, all you have to do is;
Turn the product on.
Connect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable to the printer, and then to the computer.
A Your devices are ready to use window might display on the screen.
Note: When you connect the USB cable to the product, and then to the computer, Windows 7 activates Windows Update. For windows Vista; it is imperative to run the Vista patch which can be found on the Dell website (Downloads and drivers). Make sure that you run the patch, after removing the printer USB cable from the computer. Restart the computer as the patch suggests and then install the Vista specific drivers, which also need to be downloaded from Dell Website. Again, do not connect the printer unless the installation software asks you to. For scanner issues, those who are unable to get anything scanned to their computer, and are able to print, it is essentialy a Firewall/Anti-virus issue. You can check that out by trying to scan using an application such as MSPaint (Start> type 'mspaint' > hit enter).
