The battery connector is not working..how can i fix it?

Any electronic savy tech should be able to either solder the wire back on OR replace the connector for you. The battery connectors are available even from Radio Shack.

Likely the switch contact that connects the battery when you remove the adapter is not making contact. This is a common problem. The problem is right at the input power connector. Sometimes you can bend the contact to restore operation... else you have to replace the input power connector.

Usually the problem will be with the battery contacts. Often corrosion due to leaving batteries in too long or the spring contacts, don't. Another harder thing is the adapter connector often has a spring blade that contacts the center pin when adapter is unplugged to switch to battery. These get bent and are a chronic problem for devices that use either adapter or battery.

You can get that fixed if you can find someone who can solder. The jacks wear out over time on a lot of things. The jacks themselves are worth about $1 but it is the labour to open the case and solder a new one in.

The contacts in the jacks are spring loaded so these can wear or get damaged etc. So eventually they won;t make good contact and you get your problem. You see this a lot on laptops. You can twist or apply pressure on the plug until you get it to power up. This is more luck than anything when it works and eventually it will get to a point where it won;t connect anymore. This really is a simple repair but finding someone to solder the new jack in is the problem.

Check battery direction. Also if the unit can use a power adapter, sometimes the contact in the connector for the adapter that connects the battery when the adapter plug is out fails to contact and connect the battery.

There is a contact switch in the power connector that must be making for batteries to work... I suspect that either the soldering of the power connector or possibly a broken circuit trace to the power inout connector may be the problem.

I would inspect the unit for corrosion on battery terminals AND the power connector. The connector has a switch when a cord is plugged in, and if this switch doesn't work (they get bent) the unit will not work on batteries.
Best source of power adapters is often your local thrift store.
MATCH the voltage and whether it is AC or DC required AND the polarity if the pin is + or -.
Get one with enough current.

The problem is with a bad power connector.

The connector has a spring tab that touches the center pin when the external power is NOT plugged in. This tab brings the battery power to the center pin. Some of the springs as an alternative act as a switch to a contact for the negative lead of the battery. These suffer the same problem of loss of spring tension and failure to contact.

The spring gets weak and no longer touches and battery power will not work.

Probably the connector where you plug the AC adapter into has a switch contact that disconnects the battery when external adapter is used and it has gotten bent so when the adapter is not plugged in, it no longer makes contact to the battery power. This is pretty common for devices that use both battery and adapters.

Obviously the hi hat trigger does not function properly, it either does not generate enough signal, or the signal doesn't come thru well, or the signal comes thru well but it doesn't trigger the sound unit properly.

This could be caused by:

- too low input sensitivity setting on the sound unit for the hi hat input
- a displaced or loosely fixed sensor (trigger) on the hi hat
- a partially damaged sensor
- a bad wire connection at the sensor
- a bad wire connection at the sensor connector
- a dirty contact on the sensor connector
- a dirty contact on the cable connector at either side of the cable
- a bad cable, a broken wire or poorly soldered wire in the cable connector at either side of the cable
- a dirty contact on the input connector of the sound unit
- a bad solder connection on the input connector of the sound unit (inside the unit)
- a bad solder contact on a component or a faulty component associated to that particular input in the sound unit (capacitors, resistors, diodes, transistors, ICs, etc.)

To rule out a damaged cable, just change it and see if the hi hat works ok with another cable, if it does, the cable was damaged.

If the sensors are interchangeable , try to swap the sensor with a sensor from another cymbal, see if the other sensor works well, if it doesn't, then the sensors are not the problem.

To see if there is a problem with the input on the sound unit, connect another cymbal to that input, if it works well, the input is not the problem, if it still doesn't work, check sensitivity/trigger level setting, check connector contacts for any dirt, check connector and component solder contacts inside the unit.

Also, try to connect the hi hat to another input on the sound unit, if it doesn't work well after that, there's a problem with your hi hat (sensor, wires, dirty connector on the sensor), if it works well instead, then there's a problem with the hi hat input on the sound unit (sensitivity/trigger level, dirty connector contacts, bad solder contacts, damaged components)

Another thing: try your hi hat connected as is, but have someone move the cable connectors while you play it.
If moving the cable connector at the sensor side results in a change of operation (it might start working well for an instant or so), you definitely have a problem with that connection (check for bad wires in sensor connector, cable connector and for dirt on both connectors' pins).

If moving the cable connector at the sound unit input side results in a change of operation, then there's a problem with that connection (check for bad solder points on the input connector inside the sound unit, check for bad wires in cable connector, check for dirt on both connectors' pins).
