If the unit is under warranty...DON'T DO THIS.

open up the unit and remove the hard disk.
If you have a desktop, connect the drive like you would any other hard disk.
If the drive does NOT show up under My Compujter, then the format is proprietary, and all you can do is back up the drive with a program like Acronis True Image (you must have more free space on your hard disk than the DVR's drive size...if the DVR has a 500G hard disk, you need 500G of free space on your desktop drive).
If the drive DOES show up with a drive letter under Computer, then create a directory on the C drive and simply drag and drop all the files from the DVR hard disk (E: or whatever it makes itself) to this folder. The files may still be in a proprietary format and unplayable though.
If you are trying to play the files on the computer, I suggest using VLC player. It plays almost everything in the universe.

If the raw hard drive (such as from a LG plasma TV with inbuilt PVR hard drive) shows up unallocated space in acronis true image, then you might need to try something like Roadkill RawCopy. I have used RawCopy to copy a good hard drive from a LG 50PB2DR plasma tv, but have not yet tried hooking up the 'cloned' hard drive to the LG tv. Hopefully the clone works so that at least it is a way to 'backup' the recorded video from the original drive. LG is somewhat bad for not showing the public how to get recorded video content off the inbuilt PVR hard drives.

Just wanted to confirm that the Roadkill RawCopy software successfully cloned the hard drive from my LG 50PB2DR plasma TV. I fitted the cloned drive inside the TV (SATA connection) and all the video contents showed up and played properly. This at least allows the video contents of the original to be stored for safe keeping. This isn't the same as transferring files from the PVR hard drive to a PC, but it is at least a method of 'backing up' the video content for cases where you don't have a way to transfer individual video files, or if you don't have a way to read proprietry file types. The only issue now is - what happens when my LG plasma TV breaks down? In that case, I wouldn't be able to view the video contents anymore from the inbuilt PVR hard drive. So thanks (or rather - no thanks) to LG on that possible issue. So hopefully we get a good samaritan out there that will one day provide a method to export LG video data from PVR hard drives to some well-known video format that can be played back on a computer etc.

Backup hdd to external hd

DVD recorders are usually not the first selection for backup of data files. you may be better off with a 1 Tbyte external drive, which is suited for that purpose. Even though the DVD drive has the capacity, there are usually formatting issues with data files being burned to a DVD recorder.

When I restart my laptop to my HD crashes when windows starts to start, she took the laptop outside and put on another laptop to back up, but when it starts copying, the screen goes blue and restarts...

You will have to take the drive off, put it on an external hdd enclosure with a usb connection, connect it to a working computer, scan it for viruses and spyware, copy all of your data to another device (i.e. hdd, flashdisk, cd, etc). Then, reinstall the hd back on to the original computer and turn it on. If it works it you've solved your problem. If it doesn't then reformat your hdd, reinstall your operating system, programs, and data.
Time consuming? yes but it works.

I Have a 1999 Sanyo DVD Recoder that will not read movies I burn from my Laptop Why is this so?

Well here is the resolution for your problem.

Well that happen so because your Sanyo DVD Player/Recoder is not compatible with the video format you burn it from your laptop so first of all go through the manual of your Sanyo DVD Recoder and find out what kinda video format's are really compatible with it.

Than after burn the CD in that format from your Laptop. It will work.

If you still have any more quarries regarding to it please write back to me.

LG HDD/DVD RECORDER RH399H

Insert an empty DVD + R. The system asks whether to format - Format.
Select a recording on the HDD to copy to DVD.
Enter
Select dubbing
with arrows select type of recording to make (XP, SP, EP etc)
The system show the duration you can copy to you DVD. If small enough the FAST option also appears.

Home video on pc from digital camera, want to burn onto dvd disc?

Hello,
You can buy a USB-HDD unit and use it to copy over all your files, program files, documents, including JPG video. You can then copy them to the laptop. The unit is also a good way to backup your computer files in case it crashes and you don't loose all your data. Good Luck, RAC
