Question about Garmin StreetPilot c550 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Volume dial- not controling properly

When using for the first time I entered an address and hit go! I could hear a faint voice ( a lady's voice) I pulled over to try to turn up the volume and the wheel just kept turning and there was no change, then there was no voice!
So I read the manual for troubleshooting and there wasn't anything on this.
So what do you think??

I think you should return the unit as defective. The volume knob should only turn to a point, then stop. Turning it upwards raises the volume and turning it downward lowers it. You should also see yellow bars on the right side of the unit indicating the volume level while you are doing this. If not, the unit may be damaged and should be replaced.

No sound

Turn the volume up. Turn on the Garmin Nuvi. Tap the "Volume" button on the "Where to?" or home screen. Move the slider for the volume up.

Unmute the Garmin Nuvi. Tap the "Volume" icon again. Uncheck the "Mute" option, if it is currently checked.

Make sure the voice is not faulty. The navigation instructions are provided by a voice. To verify whether or not the present voice is faulty, you must switch the voice. Power on the Nuvi and tap the "Tool" icon. Tap "Settings" in the Tool menu. Tap the "Language" option and tap the language you want. Then select another voice to use. Now go back to the home screen and enter an address into the "Where to?" option. See if you can hear sound now.

Update the Garmin Nuvi with WebUpdater. Download and install WebUpdater from the Garmin website (see Resources). Launch WebUpdater on the computer, and connect the Nuvi to the computer with the USB cable. The software will detect the Nuvi and locate all updates for the device. Confirm that you want to update the device when prompted and WebUpdater will download the updates to the Nuvi.

Reset the Garmin Nuvi. A master reset will restore the Nuvi to its factory configurations and delete all favorites and waypoints that have been added. Power off the Nuvi and unplug it from any power source. Hold your finger down on the bottom right corner of the Nuvi screen, at the same time power the device back on. When asked "Do you really want to erase all user data?," remove your finger from the bottom corner of the screen and tap "Yes." The device will reset and sound should be restored.

How do I change the volumn of the voice?

On the main screen of the unit (after you have just turned it on, for instance), there should be a volume button on the bottom bar. Touch it to enter the volume control, where you can set the voice volume.

It just stopped talking. No voice directions, on

Hit the menu buttom, go to settings, then go to volume and see if it is muted. Sounds like the mute or volume down button got inadvertantly hit and turned down or muted. If this does not work, turn the unit over and look under the fold up antenna for a reset button. Depress this button until the unit restarts and should reset the unit back to factory default settings and get you on your way. Good luck!!! If these don't help you, call the garmin support number at :1-800-800-1020. Hope this helps!

There is a volume control on the right side of the gps. You may have just accidentally turned the volume down too low to hear.

No active voice

Is the volume turned up? Press the bottom of the screen while the unit is navigating, and the volume control should appear. Make sure it is turned up. Or you can do the same thing by pressing the main screen and searching the menu for Volume Control.

Volume

Hello Smboston,
I like to help if i can. On your Tom Tom one there is whole at the bottom, this hole is to reset the Tom Tom in case of if it does not work properly. Put a pin (not a sharp one) into the hole and push it couple of times till you feel button is being pressed. That will reset the whole of your Tom Tom and try it then to see if it works fine. If it works good if not you need to check all your volume settings by going into the volume control settings. I hope it works for you. Good Luck.
