Question about Canon PIXMA MX850 Multifunction Printer

1 Answer

My printer only prints a 5/8" wide strip across and skips about the same horizontal width. In other words for some reason it looks like a zebra!

The printer prints one label and skips another one

First, I need to admit it. This is the worst printer I have ever used. I had all kond of troubles with it.
The skipping labels problem was my misery for 2 days to. I had to find out that my labels were falling out of the printing area generating a new page (label). Go back fix your width. Make sure your label fits one page (label). Print again. That's what I did. Good luck.

Printer creates horizontal lines across paper that are either blank (no ink) or skipping/sliding looking blurring and distorting the text in that spot. This has been going on for a month. Changing...

The print-head is like a paint-brush -- brush sideways across a white-coloured wall, and you should get a wide "band" of paint. If only half of the paint-brush has paint on it, then only half of that "band" on the wall will get painted, leaving a horizontal strip of white showing through.

So, launch the Canon software that is installed on your computer, and run a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to unclog those ink-jets that are _NOT_ shooting the ink onto the paper.

Yellow light keeps flashing underneath triangle- Error code 6480. Please advise what this means? many thanks

There is a thin (1/4"wide) plastic strip running across the width in front of and below the drive belt. This is part of the optical encoder that tells the print-head where it is. If you look closely, there are fine black vertical lines on this strip. If the strip gets a piece of crud on it, you get an error during the start-up sequence. Gently clean this strip with a damp lint-free tissue. This also will fix a gap in the printing running lengthwise (not across the page like a clogged head).

I have canon mp145 printer. when it starts to print it gives the service error 5100 message

Tried greasing (actually WD40) per linzi's reply, but it did not help. In the process, I think the solution presented itself. PRINTS ON ONLY HALF OF THE LABEL

If the printing clearly stops, then the maximum width setting of the printer is not set to the full 4 inches (104mm) of the printhead. Go into the setup mode on the printer and look for the setting called PRINT WIDTH and make sure it's set to 104mm or close to that. If printing is only half way across the label, it's because the width is set to something less than 104mm.

if the print fades away off the label, that is due to an imbalance in the pressure across the printhead.

Hope that helps !

Problem with Canon MX700 printer: For the past

Look inside at the clear strip that runs across behind the carriage. With a light you should see grease or ink spots at the same area where the skips appear on your page. Clean the spots off with a Q-tip damp with alcohol.

Error code 5100 on mx700 printer

There is a thin (1/4"wide) plastic strip running across the width in front of and below the drive belt. This part is related to the optical encoder which tells the print head where it is. Softly clean this strip with a damp lint free tissue. This also fixed a gap in the printing running lengthwise (not across the page like a clogged head).
