Question about Washing Machines

There is a hot water valve & a cold water valve on the Dexter T300 machines but it is a 2 coil valve. does the hot water valve supply only hot water or does one side provide water to perhaps the soap dish? does the cold water valve supply only cold water or does it supply water to somewhere else?

Usually on a hot and cold fill machine the cold valve will be a double valve and the hot a single.

depending on program selected this is basic operation

hot valve will fill at the start of wash only

one side of cold valve can also fill during start of cycle (depending on cycle)

the second side of the cold valve is used for rinses/prewash

and finally on cold valve both coils are energized, ie water goes through both to take away the fabric softener

hope this helps you out

Supplies hot water when needed, cold water when needed. and then warm water when needed. so the second coil is for warm water. it basically mixes the hot and cold water.

Does the wma76 hotpoint need a hot water feed? Is a cold water feed enough?

Hi from retired Englishman in France (it's 21:29!),

If your washer has 2 pipes for feeding water then one is for hot and the other is for cold naturally.
All washing machines have a water heating element in them- in case any hot water supply is not hot enough for its wash.
If you only have a cold tap you will need to purchase a 'Y' connector. This screws onto the cold tap supply (single end) and the hot and cold feed pipes connected to the washer screw onto the other two ends. The machine will now be fooled into thinking it has two separate feeds!
The machine opens the valve for the 'hot' water supply (which of course is cold) and the heats it up to the required temperature for the wash cycle. Afterwards, when the machine requires cold water for rinsing, it opens up the 'cold' supply (which is the same supply as for the hot water!) and is happy.

Hope this answers your question.

The water fill valve - The water fill valve is a mechanical and electrical part, the coils on the valve need electricity to mechanically open the valve to allow the water to flow into the washer....myth....the washer pumps water into itself...no, it does not. The fill valve opens and the house water pressure pushes the water into the washing machine.

If the cold water coil quits, the hot will still work and during warm fill you will get hot water only and during a cold fill you will get no water at all. No cold water from washing machine. Hot water is fine.

You have to replace the cold water solenoid valve.

I only have hot water going into the machine on all the settings.

You need to verify that the cold water is actually flowing through the cold/hot water shut off valve at the wall/floor first. If you are getting water flow at the supply side of the house, it is likely that the washing machine has a defective water inlet valve.

It is possible that it is a very simple problem to fix, such as a wiring plug not connected to the cold water inlet valve (solinoid), but since this is a new machine, you should have the issue handled with the warranty service. If this was a used machine you purchased, then by all means do some investigation to see if you can locate the issue.

Start with the basics by making sure the water is actually getting through the house supply valve and through the washer hoses. By the way, you should change supply hoses whenever you get a new machine, since a broken hose can easily cause extensive damage should it fail. Most manufacturers are now recommending that owners replace their washer supply hoses every 5 years.

OK, if the water is flowing throught the valve and hose, and when you reconnect the hose to the washer and turn it on and you aren't getting any water into the machine, if you hear a humming sound, then the valve is likely getting power but could be defective or has failed. There is no "flap" only a solinoid that cycles a piston back and forth to either let let water flow into the machine or shut the water supply off. Other than that, there shouldn't be anything else preventing the water from getting into the tub.

No hot water

Make sure your hot water supply valve is on first. If so then try reversing the hot and cold water feed lines and see if you get hot water when asking for cold. The water valve for the hot water side could be bad. Are you familiar with a voltage meter or know someone that can see if you valve coil is getting 120V when the machine is trying to fill with hot water. If not the control unit is faulty. If you do have the 120Vac on the solinoid coil and no water the either the coil is open circuit(bad) or the inlet is plugged. Most generally the problem is in the control knob unit.
