If it's dead, it could be a fuse.

If it won't work properly, the door switch mounts or door hinges are out of alignment or broken.

The outside cover will have to be removed so the interaction can be observed between the hook-like door latches and the door switches as you open & close the door.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

GE microwave oven model#JVM1441BH04 when you close door on switch activates and oven comes on. Only goes off when door is opened.

HELLO.

the problem your are experiencing with your microwave oven is a failed interlock switch.
Be careful when closing your microwave door. Slamming the door too hard is one of the main reasons that the interlock switch is damaged.

Slamming the microwave door shut can easily blow the microwave fuse, but they can also blow due to problems with the interlock switches.
A microwave oven will not function until the fuse is replaced.

Instruction on how to replace fuse on microwave.

1. Unplug the microwave from the electrical outlet to prevent electrocution. Place the microwave in a well-lit area to be able to locate the fuse.

2. Use a screwdriver to remove the outer cabinet of the microwave, and follow the power cord to the fuse. The fuse is located 2 to 3 inches within the microwave and is attached to the power board.

3. Observe the fuse to determine if it is blown. Blown glass fuses will produce burn marks on nearby surfaces, or the internal fuse wire will be black and melted, while ceramic fuses show no outward appearance of being blown.

4. Determine if a ceramic fuse is blown by testing it with an ohmmeter. If the ohmmeter reads zero ohms, your fuse is not blown. Other readings on the ohmmeter show that your fuse is blown.

5. Replace the blown fuse by popping it out of its holder, and snapping a new fuse in its place. Tighten the fuse clips by squeezing them together with your fingers.

6. Replace the outer cabinet of the microwave, and plug the microwave back into the electrical outlet. Test the microwave to see if it's working properly.

thanks.

Kenmore hood microwave door was slammed shut, now it won't power on. Fuse is good, door switches don't look damaged or dislodged. I haven't ohm'd the switches. They should not be the problem as the...

While the door was slammed it is possible that the connection to the main board was disconnected. so since there is no display I recommend that you check the power to the processor board, check if the LT circuit is working , if the board fuse has failed or if the power supply here is faulty.
Only if the display comes back will it confirm the working o the processor.

You can try to take the unit down and open the cage. Look at the door safety switches and see if they also popped out of place. She might have permanently damaged the door. But don't panic just try what I just explained. Turn off all power first at the breakers.

My microwave turns on but doesnt produce heat

This happens because of a bad door switch . The plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door .

Check also the turntable . It could be out of it's right place .

WARNING :

1:Don't slam your microwave door because this may cause the fuse to blow and this is the reason of bad door switch problem .
2: A microwave is capable of giving you a serious electrical shock even when it's unplugged , so I recommend you to call a repair technician for help .

please don't forget to rate .

good luck .

Door slammed and no microwave is dead

yep you got it in one, I must have advised about 10 people today about this. when the door is slammed the door protection circuit does not operate correctly and then takes out the mains fuse inside the unit. renove the case and locate the fuse, normally where the cable enters the unit. as long as the fuse is the correct amperage, lenght and diameter you have no problems. do not test the unit with the cover off and be careful as the capacitors can hold a lethal charge

the door protection circuit needs attention, the door catches operate microswitches, but there is also a third which is a crowbar microswitch. if all three do not operate in the correct sequence then the safety switch or fuse will go.

does it not light up at all? A microwave has a fuse on it. Probably accessible from the back panel. if not you would need to disassemble it. Most likely cause of this is slamming the door broke one of the safety switches the door has so the microwave knows when the door is open. And it shorted against something when it broke. It might have simply blew the fuse but then again you might have fried it.

Oven not coming on but timer and lights working

The door switches are almost certainly the culprit - probably the upper one. It may also be a loose mount, or even a loose spring in the hook-like devices on the door which activate the switches. There is a center monitor switch whose purpose is to blow open the fuse if the door is open and the upper or lower switch gets activated. That's why the fuse blew when the screwdriver was introduced - you activated the door switch while the monitor switch was on. I've attached a generic picture which gives you the idea. More importantly, at my Web site, I have critical safety information, disassembly tips, and infomration on checking and replacing door switches.
