How to Format Hard Drive With Windows 8 eHow

Step 1:

Back up all data on the drive you want to format. Tap the "Search" icon on the Windows Start screen and type "format disk" in the Search field. Select "Create and Format Hard Disk Partitions." The Disk Management utility opens.

Step 2:

Click the drive that you want to format. Note that in most cases "Disk 0" is the drive with the Windows operating system on it. If this is the disk you want to format, you should reinstall Windows instead.

Step 4:

Click "Yes" at the warning that all data on the partition will be deleted. After a few seconds, the volume is deleted. The drive is now listed as unallocated in the Disk Management window.

Step 1:

Select the drive you are formatting if it isn\'t already selected. Click the "Action" menu, then "All Tasks" and "New Simple Volume." The New Simple Volume Wizard opens. Note that if the disk is part of an array, advanced users will have additional options like creating a new spanned volume, striped volume, mirrored volume or RAID-5 volume.

Step 3:

Specify how much space should be used in the new volume by entering a value in the text field. If you are creating only one volume or partition in the drive, this number should be the same as the maximum disk space displayed above. Click "Next."

Step 4:

Select a drive letter that you would prefer the computer to use for this drive. If you don\'t want a letter assigned, click the "Do Not Assign a Drive Letter or Drive Path" option. Advanced users may also prefer to mount the drive in an empty NTFS folder. Click "Next."

Step 5:

Select a file system for the volume. Your options are ExFAT or NTFS. Use ExFAT if you\'re going to share files with a Mac computer; otherwise, NTFS is the better choice. Unlike its predecessors, ExFAT can support the same volume sizes as NTFS -- up to 256TB. However, it\'s not as robust as NTFS and doesn\'t support file system-level encryption and built-in compression. Mac computer\'s can\'t write files to an NTFS drive.

Step 6:

Select the "Perform a Quick Format" option if the drive doesn\'t contain any private information, or if you\'re using the drive for your personal use. A Quick Format takes only a few seconds, but the data it leaves behind can be easily recovered by anyone with the right software. A full format takes much longer but it does erase every byte of data. Select the "Enable File and Folder Compression" option if desired. Type a name for the volume and click "Next."

Step 7:

Click "Finish" after reviewing the settings that were applied to the new volume. If you want to change anything, click the "Back" button and format the drive again.

Step 8:

Select another drive or volume to format, or exit the Disk Management utility.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you\'re formatting a drive to give to someone else, or if you\'re disposing of a drive that has sensitive information on it, you should always deselect the Quick Format option so Windows can perform a full format. However, even a full format may not make the data completely unrecoverable. The only way to be 100 percent certain that data can\'t be recovered is to destroy the drive.

I need to know how to partition newly purchased item into 3 or 4 partitions. A step by step guide is needed. Thank you.

IN windows OS
go to control panel from the start menu
Go to System and Maintenance
then click on Administrative Tools
then double-clicking Computer Management on navigation pane you will see storage under that choose disk management

ss2sameer.gif

In the right hand pane you will see each physical disk within your computer on a separate row, and each disk is displayed with it broken up into its partitions. (In the example shown there is one physical disk which is partitioned into two)
After confirming which partition you wish to remove, right click on it, and select 'Delete Partition' or 'Delete Logical Drive'. Click 'Yes' when prompted. make sure u choose the right one. these actions are not undoable. u may loose your all data.

now Right-click on the unallocated region created on your hard disk, and then clickNew Simple Volume.
you will be creating primary partition. you will get New Simple Volume Wizard, click Next.
write the size of the volume you want to create in megabytes (MB) or accept the maximum default size, and then click Next. in your case write 330,000 for 330gb partition.
Choose the default drive letter or a different drive letter to identify the partition, and then click next.
you will get format partition dialogue box.
if you don't want to format the volume right now, click Do not format this volume, and then click Next.
To format the volume with the default settings, click Next.
ideally choose NTFS and quick partition
choose finish.
create more partitions by right clicking on empty space and choosing new partition and repeating above steps.

About a month ago I lost all my pictures, favorites and had to reload my Norton. Everything is still in the computer somewhere, only I don't know what happened or how to find and get them back. Please help...

You can often successfully recover deleted files from a PC, it all depends on what has happened since the files were deleted.
When you delete files the data itself isn't deleted, just the index entry that tells the system where the data for those files is located. The area containing the deleted data is also now marked as free space so it is available for any new files to be written there instead.

If and when that happens, then it is too late to recover your deleted files so it is very, very important to not save any new files or data to the device concerned.

One of the easiest ways to see if you can recover deleted files is to try some good file recovery software. One I used to use is this data recovery program which you can download from site below

How tp convert a GPT hard drive to a MBR hard drive? thanks

Boot off your Vista disc and go to the Recovery options. Once inside there access Command Prompt (It is a choice in the Menu) type Diskpart.exe and hit enter. Then type Help you will see many options.

What you want to do is type 'List Disk' select the Disk you wish to convert and so forth. Basically the way to convert from GPT to MBR is in there. You can also clean all data off the disk from inside Diskpart and start over with MBR.
Commands to Convert Disks
convert mbr [noerr]

Use the convert mbr command to set the partitioning style of the current disk to MBR. The disk may be a basic disk or a dynamic disk but the disk must not contain any valid data partitions or volumes.

convert gpt [noerr]

Use the convert gpt command to set the partitioning style of the current disk to GPT. The disk may be a basic or a dynamic disk but it must not contain any valid data partitions or volumes. This command is valid only on Itanium-based computers; it may be unsuccessful on x-86-based computers.

convert dynamic [noerr]

Use the convert dynamic command to change a basic disk into a dynamic disk. The disk may contain valid data partitions.

convert basic [noerr]

Use the convert basic command to change an empty dynamic disk to basic.
