Hi,

This appears to be a failing PTO relay.

The x540 IS water-cooled - and may have a malfunctioning temp cutoff switch... however finding a schematic for this machine is proving difficult.

RIO (Reverse Implement Option)

Mowing while backing up is strongly discouraged.

An operator who deems it necessary and chooses to keep the mower (or other implement) engaged while backing up should first bring the tractor to a stop and look behind the tractor to be sure there are no bystanders. Then actuate (push in) the RIO button. The RIO button must be held down in the reverse implement position as the shift lever is moved into reverse (reverse foot pedal is depressed on automatic drive models).

The operator may then release the button and the mower will continue to operate while they are backing up and also when they resume forward operation. The next time the operator chooses to keep the mower engaged while backing up, they must repeat this procedure. If the mower (PTO) is engaged and the operator shifts into reverse or depresses the reverse pedal prior to pressing the RIO button, ignition to the engine will be shut off. The engine will stop unless the operator either pushes on the RIO switch or shifts out of reverse.

If the engine does stop, the operator must return the mower engagement (PTO) switch or lever to the ''off'' position, depress the brake pedal, and then turn the ignition switch to restart the engine.

Also, clean the radiator grid, if that helps.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Why doesn't the PTO engage the blades?

assuming the PTO is an electric clutch engagement ? if so you must not be getting voltage to it. also you may have a safety switch restricting voltage from getting there. i have a rider that has this type of PTO and if my battery gets low mine will cut in and out as i mow. i charge my battery and then it works just fine. check for voltage at the clutch and also you can check continuity of the switch itself to make sure it does work. hope this is some help

F525. Updated mower switch by John Deere is not engaging mower

The John Deere F525, a front cutting machine, has 3 fuses.
20 Amp
15 Amp
10 Amp

Check the 15 amp fuse. I believe this supports the PTO clutch. If you replace the fuse and it blows again, check the electric clutch. You will likely find burnt or melted wires. The bearings do go out on these clutches causing them to run hot and eventually burn up.

PTO Clutch will not engage: There is a very fine one page discussion on evaluating electric clutches at this site:

http://www.messicks.com/Articles/FixingElectricClutch.aspx

My JD tech manual, which covers the entire LA 100 series, agrees with the electrical specifications. It states that the Electric PTO Clutch should show the following:

Resistance 3.7 ohms
Current Draw 3.25 amps
It does not give the air gap.

It does include a note to check the PTO Clutch Key for damage or if missing. So there is a drive key between the PTO Clutch and the shaft. Additionally, it recommends checking the tightness of the cap screw. That's the screw or bolt that holds the clutch on the shaft.
Cap Screw torque 55 lb-ft (75 N.m).

If the fuse blows, I recommend you check the resistance of the clutch. If the clutch is shorting to ground it will show zero resistance when you ohms the connector wire to a ground position. In which case, you will have to replace the clutch.

Fixing Electric Clutches

Other possibilities.
On the F525 there is a cut-off switch in the hydraulic system. It is a low pressure cut off. If you were running the mower and deck and then it suddenly stopped, it may be low pressure in the hydraulics. It will not automatically reset as you are using the same volume for the drive pumps. Once the oil gets low enough it cuts out the deck drive 1st, then the drive pumps.

Why does my rover rancher stall when i go to engage the cutting deck

1>the pressure switch under the seat may be malfunctioning? (it will cause the engine to die immediately when trying to engage the cutting blades because it thinks your not sitting in the seat.
2>dirty or clogged air cleaner element will cause engine to die when engaging cutting blades. This can be tested very easily by removing the air cleaner element and then trying to engage the blades again. If this works then replace air cleaner element immediately before running the engine anymore.
I have personally experienced both of these problems myself more that once.

Husqvarna problems

Your deck either engages with a cable or an electric clutch, which one is it. Cutting deck engaged when started is a switch issue.

Sounds like you have a bad safety switch somewhere, possibly the seat switch.

Pto won't engage after it had stalled out when in reverse

Did you take it out of reverse? You need too look closer at the linkage and at wear it gos, look for the switch on the trans mission, it going to work one of two ways positive or negative if it work from ground unplug it and see if it will work, if it doesn't try running a wire from one side of the connector to complete the circuit .

Mower starts but when the blade is engaged it stalls. Mower starts fine but when I press the lever to engage the blade the mower stalls immediately?

Check the pulleys on the deck...one of them is jammed or rusted to the point that will not turn.

Mower quits when engaging mower deck of husqvarna yth 2348

Try putting a jumper wire on the wire going from the engine to the seat. Take that plug and put a wire from one side to the other. Be careful not to cut your feet off when engaging deck.
