we have had the camera for three weeks, and yesterday when we tried to turn it on it displayed the error message: "lens error, restart camera" and will then turn itself off.

Help! is this a common problem with this camera?

Lens does not fully retract and powering on/off does not help. Lens goes out when turned on but image remains fuzzy even in autofocus.

I have the same problem. I was using the camera outside in 25 degree (F) temperature. I only took about 4 pictures then went to turn-off and the lens would not go all the way in. Tried re-powering and still have the same problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I have the same problem...I was recently on vacation in Las Vegas, & one of the beginning nights I took a picture in a night club & the camera wouldn't close when I turned it off. It really put a damper on my trip not having my camera. Does anyone know how much it would cost to repair - is it really the $260 listed in Solution #1. I'm not sure I'd be able to get it apart & back together doing it myself if it's as complicated as it sounds with the link for the IXUS in Solution #1.

Lens doesn't work

Try removing the battery and memory card for at least 15 minutes. With some cameras, this will reset the camera and lens may clear the error message, as long as there is something that is not physically damaged the camera.

My canon powershot sd800IS Has lens error, restart camera it takes pics but the lens doesn't zoom right or retract completely

the mechanism is jammed or broken, the camera needs to be disassembled the lens needs to be inspected and disassembled and then assembled back together the right way.

I highly recommend sending it to a professional service, as these are tricky devices and easyly break.

I can recommend www.advancecamera.com/repair get a free estimate from there.

let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,
Ekse

Hi, my zoom is stuck out and won't retract.

Your lens motor is most likely burnt out. The only way to continue taking pictures is push the lens in manually, You may have problems with the focus after doing this, so just turn the lens manually until you are zoomed in properly. If you have a warranty now is the time to use it.

PowerShot SD630 lens stuck out, says lens error, restart camera

This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Zoom will not retract

Dear Grammie,

You have either experienced a lens error or your zoom dial is broken (both usually caused by some sort of impact damage, but which can be spontaneously occuring).

Look for an error message on your camera's LCD screen such as "E18," or "lens error restart camera." If you do not see a lens error but simply cannot retract your zom lens (go into wide angle mode) via the zoom lever then it simply maybe a broken command dial. Either way, however, you will need to have the camera serviced in all likelihood. Call tech support at 1-800-828-4040 M-F from 8 am to 12 midnight EST and Saturdays until 8 pm EST. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
HeavyDLB

Lens is stuck out

It sound like a problem with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended) Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
