How to setup up for repeater mode

This particular Hawking device must be configured after it is connected to your LAN and powered up.

Before you can do this, you will need the software from Hawking. If your devices Serial Number begins with HEMCHWREN1 use the link below"

http://hawkingtech.com/products/downloadfile/114.html

If you have a Revision 1 device with a Serial Number begins with HEMCREN1R1 use this link:

http://hawkingtech.com/products/downloadfile/117.html

Once you have the software, here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Connect the A/C power adapter to an
electrical source, and then connect it to the
'Power' socket of the Range Extender.
  2. Connect your Range Extender to a LAN
port on the Router or AP that you would
like to extend (repeat) the range on.
  3. Connect your PC to any of the LAN ports
located on the back of your router/AP.
  4. Now run the appropriate program you obtained from the instructions in the beginning of the answer.

When the auto-load page appears, click the Setup Wizard option on the right and follow the Setup directions.

Scan for your Range Extender by clicking the 'Search' button. Once found, click the device to highlight it and click 'Next".

Choose a name for your Range Extender. You will use this name to identify and connect to your extended network. Optionally, you may change your login username and password. Click 'Next'.

At this point, the Setup Wizard should automatically obtain a new IP address for your Range Extender from the Router. Please wait for this IP to generate into the IP address field. Note the new IP address and click 'Next' to continue.

In the Search box, find the Wireless Network that you would like to extend. This Range Extender works best with other wireless-N networks, but also supports wireless-B and G networks as well. Select your preferred network and then click 'Next'.

For Security Settings, you must make sure that the Range Extender's security settings are identical to that of the Router/AP that is having the signal extended. If you do not know these settings please contact your network administrator.

At this point the Setup Summary displays all configured settings of the Range Extender. If the information displayed corresponds to your desired networks settings, you can go ahead and click 'SET' to apply the settings. The HWREN1 will automatically reboot. Please be patient.

More information can be obtained on the hawking site:

1. did you first try to connect to the router via wire directly with it in the same room? then set up the wireless to work in the same room too.

2. once you've done that and it worked then move it to your bedroom. If it doesn't work there it could be that there is something inbetween the two rooms that is blocking the signal...ie a furnace can do that

3. if it won't work try relocating the router to another location. Try a different location in the same room first

but as i said , first get it set up and running in the same room so you know for sure it works.

I have had 2 of these extenders, first one worked until I got a virus and had to reset the settings. After that it only worked for a minute at a time, lost my temper and smashed it with a hammer. Got another one, determined not to smash it I went through the instructions following them step by step. I did this twice and STILL nothing. Works when connected to my router via an Ethernet cable, does not work wirelessly. I am resisting the urge to throw it out of the window and will be returning it to maplins later on today. Wireless extender Hawking 300N. Can you tell me what color the wireless connection light should be, green or yellow? If green what does yellow emply, on steady but not blinking even during operation?...

Green is good, yellow you can have several issues. The least obvious is a loopback which is usually caused when the primary wireless and the extender are duplicating IPs between themselves or another unit. This can also happen when two extenders come within range of one another or when the extender is also used as a wireless node and the IP range is the same as the primary network.
