The machine has a built in WiFi connection that will access your home network if you have one or you can connect to any open network that allows the public such as at your library, Mcdonalds or Panera Bread and many more. Please try and follow the detail below.

It is looking for apassword (WiFi Network Key) You have to double click on the little computericon down in the right tool bar area, the one with the two side radiating arcs, and possibly has a small red X under it. The red X indicates that it is NOTconnected. When you double click on that icon a window called RT28701 opens up,then you click on Wireless Information tab, then you cursor down to the name ofyour WiFi and high light it and click the connect box. Then another windowopens up called Network Properties. Uncheck "The key is providedautomatically" box. This will allow you to type in your "NetworkKey", the password that protects your network from outsiders. This"KEY" was set up when you installed the router on your servercomputer. If this does not work at first, turn the machine over on its back andusing a toothpick, insert it into the little hole about an inch diagonally fromthe right corner of the data plate, this will re-load a new copy of everythingincluding the WiFi RT28701 driver. sometime thisdriver gets confused. See my TIP at: It is looking for a password (WiFi NetworkKey) You have to double click on the little computericon down in the right tool bar area, the one with the two side radiating arcs, and possibly has a small red X under it. See my TIP at: http://www.fixya.com/support/r7350901-fix_synet07526_wifi_flashing AdditionalInformation When I try to signon with the red X showing, I get "The page cannot be displayed If I thendouble click on the icon down in the right corner I elucidated above, RT28701opens up to "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) with all zeros in the IP addressfield, and Subnet Mask, with no entries in the default gateway. That is a clueto me that the automatic sign on has not found a viable network, or needs somethingelse. If I then click on Wireless Information tab, the list of availablenetworks, appear in the box. The machine keeps trying to associate my previousentered name site with my preferred site and tells me the signal is good, butit cannot link up. This is a signal to me that it has lost my Network Key orthat the software has failed or both. I then click on advance anddelete my preferred network and hit OK, this will force the software to ask mefor my network again, and notice that the preferred is missing. I click on thename of my network again and then hit connect., then the Wireless Networkproperties window opens up and I can insert my Network Key again after Iuncheck the "The key is provided automatically" box. I enter the keyand hit the OK button. I still do not get a connection, so I reboot themachine, and wait for about 30 seconds and the machine synchs up because thelittle RED X under the icon has disappeared. Now the machine will hook to theinternet as long as I want to, but sometimes when I turn the machine on it willnot synch, so I go through the above sequence again. The secret is once youhave entered your key and ask for the machine to synch up you have to reboot. Why? I do not exactly know, but I suspect that the WiFi driver looses it You may also wantto look at the TIP http://www.fixya.com/support/r7679654-sylvania_syneto7526_wirless_keyboard To make your knowledge complete

I am trying to connect my netbook to the internet and it won't connect because it can't find an ip address i have looked and tried everything what do i need to do?

The first way, and one I use a lot, is just plug your netbook into your router at home, using the netbook's Ethernet port and the cable supplied with your router.
This way works every time, gives a fast and secure connection, but means that you need to use your netbook within cable distance of your router. Any internet usage will be part of your normal broadband usage with your home ISP, but isn't the point of netbooks that you can be mobile with them? Who wants to have nice new netbooks tied up by a cable?

2 - Wireless netbook connection using your home ISP
Another way to get online with netbooks if you're at home is to connect wirelessly to your home router.
It's a very easy process - just turn the netbook on and it will seek out your router. You get a fast connection, good security (if you tell your router to use WPA encryption) and it will usually work anywhere in your house or garden. Several netbooks, laptops or other computers can use your internet connection this way from the same router, so your family and friends can use their netbooks at the same time.
3 - Wifi netbook connection out and about

A really cheap way to get online when you're out and about is Wifi. Many busy locations - pubs, hotels, shopping malls - have "wifi hotspots" which are simply powerful wireless routers that you can use to connect your netbooks wirelessly to the net.
Some are free and can be used by any computers that are nearby. Others are owned by telecomms operators like BT Openzone or mycloud and you need to pay to use them. Monthly subscriptions or pay as you go are available. So are these free and cheap choices ideal for using with cheap netboks?
For anything other than general browsing on netbooks, beware of wifi. The free ones have no security at all, and the others have password protection, but the data you send and receive is not encrypted. This means anyone in the vicinity could snoop and listen in on what you were doing. I don't bother with wifi for this reason.

If you have a wireless router you must know the password you made when you set the router up.
Try also to look in your controlpanel network and shareringcenter.

Hope this was helpfull.

What kind of router do I need to use wtih the sylvania 7 G Netbook and where do I get it?

As your Mini PC is likely to be no higher than 'g' - almost any Router will do, BUT you need a Router that will MATCH your Broadband connection to your House or Flat.
If you have a 'normal' Telephone Line - an ADSL Router is needed and an Adaptor/Splitter so you can run the phone AND your Router at the same time.
If you have Cable into the house for Phone and TV, You will need a Cable Router.
Depending on the ISP you are buying time with - Virgin, Talk Talk or BT for instance you may get a FREE Router...
On the subject of ADSL Routers, If you are buying 20Mb and above Speed packet from an ISP you should look for an ADSL2 Router
If you're in a rush to get a Router - PCWorld, Currys, Dixons or Staples are open daily.
At a more leisurely pace, you can buy On-Line from reputable companies like Aria.co.uk Ebuyer.com cclonline.co.uk or Amazon.co.uk
Expect to pay between £20 and £40 for a router. (Online is usually cheaper)
Hope you find this useful

You have to go in the setup ( in router ) for the wireless and see what security you are using, are you using WEP; WEP/PSK; WEP/802,1x and then you have to use the same in the computer.
