Question about Philips Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Philips 24PW6006/05 flat widescreen tv that when you first switch it on from standby, it switches back to standby after a couple of seconds, then attempts to switch on again and then switches back to standby. After several attempts at switching the TV on, with the same response, it will eventually switch on properly. Any chance someone might know where I need to look to isolate the problem - seems like a warming up issue to do with the switching relay? Regards, Eugene.

Hi, I have a pdf of the circuit diagram for the main board of this TV. If you could suggest which Capacitors to check, it would be easier for me to check them?

    Regards,

    Eugene.

C2561 is actually a 100mF cap on the board, but I can only get hold of 47mF capacitors at this voltage. Would this cause a problem if I use a 47mF cap?
And C2566 is not present on the actual board.

    Hi,
None of the capacitors look leaky, but I am going to replace them. I was just asking whether capacitor C2561 (shown as 47mF on circuit diagram but actually 100mF on circuit board) can be replaced with 47 mF(as on circuit diagram)? The capacitor C2566 is not connected on my circuit board(doesn't exist).
    Regards, Eugene.

Have now replaced all the capacitors you suggested, but problem still remains. Any other ideas?

  • eugene913 Apr 19, 2011

    I have replaced caps no 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6, plus the largest cap on the board C2503 (220mf 400V).

    Thank you.

Hi jdvillanueva, I'm sorry I haven't got back to you before now but I couldn't get one of the caps till now. Replaced both and still the same. Any other suggestions please?

Hi Eugene,
This symptom was caused by leaky/dried filter electrolytic capacitor in the output of power supply section. This capacitor will produced an out-of-regulation in the supply. It needs a warm-up to make itself stable but the symptom will get worst which will not power up or disable the power supply. Leaky capacitor has a dome/bulged at the top and easy to recognize but dried capacitor has no physical indication of fault. You must have a capacitor checker to determine its condition and pinpoint where the faulty one. If capacitor checker is not available, you may replaced all the electrolytic capacitor in the output stage of that board. The affected working voltage are 10v,16v,25v,35v if you see the capacitor with this working voltage replaced them all and your unit will back to normal again. This will not cost you much, because it is cheaper than other parts($4 at the most). Here is the sample of leaky capacitor.

    ok bro I'll check it...

  • Jdvillanueva

    check this capacitor first...

    1. C2521 (22mf) - small electrolytic capacitor near the primary winding of chopper transformer.

    2. C2561 (47mf) - like my sample picture. Secondary side of chopper transformer.

    3. C2450 (47mf) - duplicate of C2561 near the flyback transformer.

    4. C2564 (2200mf) - secondary side of chopper transformer

    5. C2566 (47mf) - secondary side of chopper transformer

    6. C2568 (0.47mf) - secondary side of chopper transformer

Concentrate first on the first three capacitor. You may pull-out with the same mf rating and compare the reading if you don't have a spare good capacitor. Check first if there an stored voltages before you touch the capacitor most especially with those high working voltage like the 160v capacitor which is C2561 and C2450.

Sorry I can't understand what you are trying to explain...

If you are going to replaced this cap, make sure it's same rating, 100mf must be 100mf replacement also....

No don't replaced the 100mf with 47mf, it will have an effect on the sudden change of bright picture to dim picture. Don't follow the schematic, most of the time it has an error in some rating versus the actual.... replaced all I've mentioned cap, also check the main filter cap(largest cap).

it seems that we haven't got the faulty capacitor in our first attempt, be patient bro, lets try a second time...

    replaced this cap...

    2567, 2580, 2581,

2846(100uf) - near the rectangular IC

2340 - at the crt neck board...

Let me know what will happen...

    Goodluck bro...

Why is the standby light blinking steadfast on a philips TV but screen does not switch on?

When you can't get it to play, after you did switch it off and on with the switch on the TV, I'm afraid the set is defect.
With some electronic skills, you could try to solder the points on the HT transformer, when they look not o.k.

You need a live input source to the port that the TV is set to, or turn on the tv and switch input to a live input source, anything else and the tv shifts to standby.
