Still confused. What should make the green light to go on blinking without getting in a continous green light mode? This way I cannot play the system. Is there any problem or defect with the Bose head? or is it with the speakers? How do I boot teh system. Please help! This is the sixth day I have not been able to hear any kind of music from the system.

I wan't you to observe the blinking closely and refer this portion from the repair manual and follow the instructions.
The amber and green LEDs on the DSP board serve to provide a wealth of information about the status and operation of the DSP board. The following is a summary of the various possible states of the LEDs and a functional description of the state(s) represented.
• Green LED: The green LED serves a dual purpose: general system health and serial data received. The green LED will blink once per second with a 50% duty cycle (i.e. on for ½ second, off for ½ second) if the system booted and is running normally. If the unit is in the SmartSpeaker "Off" condition, the green LED will blink briefly (approx. 0.1s ON time) once every 5 seconds.

• The green LED will also toggle whenever a serial data byte is received. This will interrupt the normal 1 second blink rate. The green LED blinking faster than 1 Hz usually indicates that it is receiving serial communications.

• Amber LED: The amber LED serves to signal 3 conditions: power applied/boot status, S/PDIF status and clipping status. When power is first applied the amber LED will light briefly. If the PROM FLASH checksum is incorrect or hardware does not pass power-on self test, the green LED and amber LED will alternately blink at approximately a 5 Hz rate. If the green LED is blinking at its normal, 1 Hz rate, a blinking, 1Hz amber light indicates that there is no valid S/PDIF signal present: If the amber LED is off while the green LED is blinking normally, then valid S/PDIF is present and being received.

No video at all!

I recommend you switch from using HDMI cables to using component (R/G/B RCA-style) cables. HD picture is superior through component cabling, and solves several HD picture issues, including HDCP (High Def Copy Protection) through HDMI issue. Component cabling should eliminate this problem.

I hope that helps.

When playing a dvd the color is in b&w only

I have had exactly this problem when changing TVs. Initially I had the sVideo out cable from the Bose with a scart plug on TV end - that worked fine on old TV. On new TV, first Samsung, second SOny, got Black and white video picture. To get it to work I used a component video cable - this is a short svideo cable with a an audio cable at the Bose end. It splits into a 3way R G B cable within 2- 3 inches at Bose end. I then plugged rgb extension cables into this and TV and worked perfectly.
I found the answer to this by errr...... reading the BOse doucumentation I reveived when I bought the Lifestyle system 5 years ago.
Good luck

Pink and green colours seem to be too vibrant when watching dvd's on lifestyle 48

I have a Lifestyle 48 which suddenly started producing a pink and green image when playing DVDs (regular TV was fine.) After speaking with Bose support, I did the following which resolved the problem:

1. Removed power from the video switcher. (or from the bose itself if you don't use the switcher.)

2. Reattach all the video cables on the back of the bose and ensure all connections to the TV and switcher (if applicable) are tight.

After performing these steps, my DVD image went back to normal. I suspect it was a loose cable in the end, but no harm in performing the power disconnect.

Although my system is just over 4 years old it has rarely been used for dvds, mainly tv & radio. During the last twelve months 'Unsupported Format' appearing when trying to play my granddaughters...

Try using a laser lens cleaner DVD.
They run $1 to $10 depending on where you buy them, I have not seen a bad one (I usually pay $1 to $3 when I buy them for friends).
That should fix it.

No sound Bose Lifestyle 38 III

I am quite sure that the indicator lights should be green. The blinking yellow likely indicates that there is no communication between the head and the audiomass. Verify that the connections are tight and then try powering off (unplugging) the system (both head and audiomass) for 30 seconds and then powering on again. That will often re-establish communications.

My Bose Lifestyle 38 starts automatically

I experienced same problem about a year ago. Learned that a neighbor (3 houses away) purchased a 38 system and was having same problem - went to the owner's guide (troubleshooting) - then changed the house code and that fixed it (for both).

DVD player will not open

Hi, I think the DVD disc was not positioned properly (since yo udid mention that the disc did not play) adn that it has jammed the tray. Please avoid furtherusing the unit as this may damage the eject gear mechanism. Only recommendation is to bring the unit for service and they can physically rmeove the jammed disc.

Lifestyle 38 and HD

I have also have this problem with a lifestyle 28 system. Bose sent me a new cable then a software update. The problem remained, after contacting Bose and unplugging cables and powering down the system this solved the problem. However 2 days after and the problem has re-appeared. Back to square one. I should add that this is the second unit I have had the retailer exchanged the last one because of the same problem.
