Question about Air Conditioning and Heat for Mazda 323 Hatchback

1 Answer

Mazda 323 2002 hatchback. The aircondtioner has stopped working on dial 1,2,3 nothing happens but on dial 4 the fan works. If I have it on 1,2,or 3 before going to 4 then cold air is blown through for a while so i think the airconditioner part is still trying to work but the fan wont work on 1,2,or 3. before this happened the car had not been driven for 10 days and prior worked fine.

Hi, The windscreen wipers on Mazda 3 hatchback 2008 have stopped working. I think it's the fuse, but I can't find the fusebox. And I have no manual.

One fuse box is at the feet of the passenger. all you have to do is undo 2 half-twist fasteners, and the other fuse box is under the hood right behind the battery. I hope this helps. as to what fuse, i have no idea.

The fwd vents are not blowing the way they should but the back vents are working fine

One of three things is happening if it's not the A/C system itself, like a leak, or a bad compressor:
1. The blower motor is going out.
2. The blower motor resistor is going out.
3. The vacuum line on the heater valve has popped off.
4. Fan Clutch is going out.

How to eliminate each one:
#1 If you turn the speed dial and the motor doesn't speed up like it should, it's probably the motor.

#2 If you have NO blower at some point on the speed dial (for example, you have blower on 1, 2, and 3, but nothing on 4, or nothing on 1, 2, and 3, but 4 works, or all positions are full blast) it's the resistor.

#3 is pretty deceptive. You will be fine while cruising down the highway, but when you hit a hill, or load the engine a little, the air will start blowing up the defrost vents. If you look under your coolant surge tank, right behind the A/C drier/accumulator (shiny aluminm cylinder thing that will be wet if you have the air on) you will see a black, round, thing with black hoses hooked to it. There should be a small black vacuum line stuck in the end of it. The line will have a 90 degree rubber end on it. If it is not there, it's popped off. I don't know why they do this, but they do. The line will be close, feel around for it, and stick it back on. Put your coolant surge tank back on and you're set.

#4 You can diagnose that by listening for a chattering or rattling sound at the front of the van while it is idling, or WITH THE ENGINE OFF reach behind the fan shroud and see if you can wiggle the fan front to back. If it wiggles, it's bad. MAKE SURE THE ENGINE IS OFF BEFORE TOUCHING THE FAN!!!!

There are a few more things it could be, but these are the most common ones in my experience. I work for a mobile fleet maintenance company and I service about 250 2007 to 2009 Express vans...I see a lot of the above 4 things. RARELY is it the A/C system.

My 2000 Mazda MPV heater fan works for 4 not for 1

You need to replace the blower motor resistor,it's in the heater box.Number 4 bypasses the resistor and all the other speeds go through it so it's the most likely problem.

Air Con cuts in and out and so does cooling fan

I have a 2008.5 Mazda 3 GS Sport and when you turn the air flow selector to windows or windows/floor, the air condition will turn on automatically. (Can't turn it off.)
