In windows Vista or 7:

  • Open Printers by clicking the Start button When I press print, it - 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then clicking Printers.

  • Right-click the printer you want to use, and then click Set as Default Printer. A check mark is displayed on the printer icon to mark it as your default printer.

  • In windows XP:
    • Open Printers and Faxes; click Start, click Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes.

    • Right-click the printer you want to use as the default printer, and then click Set as Default Printer. A check mark appears next to the printer icon in Printers and Faxes.

    Hope this helps!

My fax machine stays on and I can't print somethings. Everytime I try to print something the "FAX" machine window opens up....instead of the "PRINT" window. I clicked on the little arrow by the printer...

    Hello,
Try this.. Go to start, devices and printers and you will have a few things listed in there that are related to your printer. Most likely it will say document writer, fax and your hp printer. Make sure that the check mark is on your printer, not your fax. This indicates what your default printer is. To change this, right click on your hp printer and select set as default printer. Once this is set try printing again. Let me know if this works, if not we will try step 2. Hope this helps!

    Printing

    hi,

here are the things that i want you to follow to somehow resolve your issue.

    1. On your computer, click on start then go to control panel
    2. inside control panel open the PRINTERS and FAXES (XP) or PRINTER (VISTA).
    3. make sure change the default printer icon to the HP Officejet 5600 series.
    - right click HP Officejet 5600 series and choose "set as default printer"
    4. then try printing,

note: the reason why you encounter that problem is because the default printer icon is the "HP officejet 5600 series fax".

Can I set default printing to black and white for color laser printer?

Yes. Any printer's default options can be set as desired. Open the printer's properties (Start/Control Panel/Printers/right click the printer and left click Properties), and change the setting as you wish, then click OK. Those settings should be used each time you use the print command, unless you change the settings for that particular print job.

Hope this helps, and please rate my advice, good OR bad.

    Good luck!
