I just ran into the same issue, and the solution posted here that you will need to replace the Epson ink cartridges with the original Epson ones bought directly from Epson is correct. Epson Stylus CX6600 All-in-One printer will not print if you use compatible cartridges from another vendor/manufacturer other than Epson itself. I bought my cartridges from http://www.ldproducts.com and they work fine as far as the installation goes but Epson printer will not print any thing at all, not even in Black or Blue inks (those color cartridges are original Epson). This is extremely painful and unjust from Epson. They should be sued for this unjust requirement.

Epson requires that you replace empty cartridges with their branded replacements.
Otherwise your printer wont function.

1. Have you checked the protective tape that covers the contact area on the cartridge.
2. this may be a clogged head on the black cartridge side of the print head even though you used the print head cleaning utility.
3. You may have to contact the manufacturer to see what they recommend as how to clean the print head properly.

Unable o clean

HTML clipboardHi If your brother printer has been left unused for some time it is probably clogged? And the inbuilt cleaning facility does not help then you will probably need to buy a Magic Inkjet Flush Print Head Cleaning Kit.

Which you can find on Ebay.

Although it is possible to take the Brother printers apart, it is too difficult for most people.
To view what´s inside a Brother Printer click on next line...

http://magicinkjetflush.com/images/Unclog_Refill_Brother_Printers.jpg
Therefore, what we suggest is to make cleaning cartridges using the Dr.EpSUN Refill Tool...
Then use them to flush the print head (usually at the end of long tubes near to the back of the Brother printer)
*NEVER TOUCH THE WHITE star shaped PIN... under ink cartridges... because once pessed in... it cannot be used !
Also in most cases a single cleaning cartridge for black and 1 for colour is all you will need.
If you only have FULL INKS and need to make a cleaning cartridge use Dr.EpSUN Refill Tool to empty ink cart...
Save the ink in a clean glass jar or similar make cleaning cartridge then once unclogged simply use Dr.EpSUN Refill Tool
to refill with your saved ink.

How to make Brother Cleaning Cartridges
If you wish to see photos? You can also follow the procedure for Epson C80 in the Magic Inkjet Flush Manual.

Using FREE Dr.EpSUN Refill Tool.
To refill Brother inks... or if printer has been left unused and you need to unclog print head? (To make a cleaning cartridges *Fill empties with Magic Inkjet Flush instead of Ink / Then print rectangles using Magic Inkjet to FLUSH print heads once prints appear without white lines simply replace with inks and continue printing rectangles untill all Magic has been flushed out of print head.)

How to refill Empties...
1. Secure empty Brother ink cartridge UPSIDE DOWN in a vice or similar.
2. ONLY HALF fill Dr.EpSUN Refill Tool with warm Magic Inkjet Flush (or correct color Ink if refilling with ink)
3. Then Holding Dr.EpSUN Refill Tool upright... cover metal tip with a tissue and expell any trapped air until ink appears.
4. Insert metal tip into circular ink outlet hole of upturned cartridge... until black rubber makes a GOOD seal.
Holding both securely...
5. Do NOT TRY TO FILL Instead. PULL UP on the plunger of Dr.EpSUN REFILL TOOL.
6. Air will bubble up through the Magic/ink whilst escaping from cartridge creating a vacum.
7. Now... Simply allow plunger to retract and the Magic/ink will automatically refill the cartridge for you.
8. STOP filling before the Dr.EpSUN Refill Tool is empty otherwise air will entering.
9. Repeat until ink cartridge is full.

How to FLUSH a BROTHER print head.

10. Place filled cartridge into printer and you are ready to print.
Use print head cleaning to prime which will also fill the ink tubes... then....
11. Print rectangles of the problem colour(s) using test sheets (see below) to prime ink.

As found in the manual, here are the print test sheets for printing rectangles depending on colour(s) with problem.
Just choose... Yellow, Magenta, Grey Tones etc...

HP 6310 printer says HP 95 tricolor is empty.

Ray,
It sounds like you need to replace the cartridge with a new one. The electronics may have went out. We see this usually during the winter months when the static electricity in the air is high and we shock the cartridge. I would also NOT recommend cleaning the head/jets of the cartridge with alcohol. The electronics are fine to clean with alcohol both inside the printer and on the c artridge, but the head will dry out. We recommend taking a damp warm wet paper towel, placing it on a protected surface, and placing the head of the cartridge on the paper towel until you see some ink appear. Then put it back in your printer and let the printer clean off the bottom. If the printer is not cleaning off the bottom of the cartridge, the printer cartridge wiper on the carriage may be broken or stuck.

Epson c66 won't print

If your cartridges have been sitting in the printer for a year, it seems likely they have dried out. Replace them with new cartridges, but make sure you use the proper cartridge replacement procedure so that a ink charging cycle takes place. Then do a nozzle check. Is there any sign of ink on the paper?. Try up to three cleaning cycles. If ink is now flowing, but not yet perfectly, don't carry out any more cleaning cycles. Just leave the printer for 24 hours (to allow any air in the print head to disperse). Then repeat the cleaning cycle/wait process. It may take a while to restore a perfect nozzle check print.

If you have done lots of head cleans with no result, and you're sure you have good ink cartridges properly installed, then you can try soaking the print heads for 24 hours (or more), as follows. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may
now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid comes up over the print head. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then try a head clean/nozzle check again. Try this process twice if necessary. If still nothing, post a new comment detailing what you have done and the results.

My PGBK cartridge stopped printing. After doing the cleaning recommended through the properties help menu nothing changed. The test pattern doesn't show anything where the PGBK pattern should be - NOTHING!

After removing all the ink cartridges, I removed the print head and soaked it in propyl alcohol overnight. Then blew it out gently with an aerosol 'air duster' and washed it again in fresh propyl alcohol followed by another blowing out. After gently blotting the print heads on a soft tissue and replacing the print head plus cartridges, it necessitated two deep cleans to get the inks through and all now works again.
Make sure that you switch off the printer at its On/Off switch and not at the supply. I think I may have done this and left the heads not parked properly - hence the drying out!

Sounds like the print head is clogged. Some models have the head in the cartridge, others don't. Those that do, a cartridge replacement will help, others need cleaning manually. Also, a software head cleaning may be all it needs.

Are you confident the new cartridge is full and in-date? Can you confirm that the old cartridge was not removed until immediately before the new cartridge was installed. Did you remove the yellow tape from the new cartridge before you installed it? Was the black cartridge change properly completed such that an ink charging cycle occurred. Have you carried out any head cleaning cycles? If not, do it. Have you done a nozzle check print? If not, do it. Any sign of black ink? Yes, but not perfect? If so do a couple more head cleans and nozzle checks. If still not perfect, let it rest for 24 hours to disperse air bubbles. Then repeat.

If you have already done lots of head cleans with no result, and you're SURE you have a good ink cartridge properly installed, then you can try soaking the print heads for 24 hours (or more), as follows. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Carefully push the print head by hand fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid comes up over the print head. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then try up to 3 head clean/nozzle checks again. If still nothing, post a new comment with full details of what you have done and the results.
