Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3 Full Version OEM for PC

3 Answers

Long Story short, computer was messing up and I had to system restore it. I restored it to sometime in Feb. and now Avast! Won't activate or pull up shields or anything. I haven't tried re-logging in or whatever, and plan on it soon. But I think the problem is that I have it updated to Version 6 but it was restored to version 5.1. something. Any help or thoughts would be veeeeerrrryyy greatly appreciated.

Try to activate the antivirus in safe mode after restarting the computer start tapping F8 key then select safe mode if this doesn't works try to backup all the important data and if you have encrypted any data first decrypt it then reinstall the OS

Thank you all, I shall try uninstalling then reinstalling first, then I am considering re-installing Xp and all that fancy what not. I don't want to but I think for the sake of this darn thing, it's gonna be my last resort.

I think the best way that you should do is to re-format your pc and re-install the operating system and drivers and softwares this takes time but it should fix all the problems your experiencing

By reformat, like, going into Local drive C: then right click then format, or what? I got to the point of reinstalling and it wanted me to choose partitions, but I don't have nearly enough experiance to know what exactly to do. If you could elaborate and explain what to do, Id very much appreciate it

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
New users get to try the service completely Free afterwhich it costs $6 per call and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Did you have Avast installed previusly or was it the first run?
In any case, try to do a System Restore to a point previous to this strange behaviour.
If you can't localise it in your Programs (Start) find exe file in

C:\Windows\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Presume your system disk is C: and system forlder is windows. Use the proper one if it's different

Very slow and I keep getting the white screen about restoring active desktop. Then it won't let me restore.

You will need to try reloading the operating system of the computer, this is on the recovery disks you should have made when you first bought the laptop. If you do not have the disks contact the manufacturers support site for details on ordering the recovery disks

I have broken.openco after scanning with malware bytes. i have scanned several times with this but keeps comming back how can i get rid of this?

Try to download and install AVAST antivirus Home Edition. It is free. Besides, avast has an option to scan at boot time so it can detect and delete viruses and malwares before they can cling to your system memory. You can download it here.

Restting a desktop due to virus or worm

get rid of Macafee, it wont help

restore to the earliest point you can, will minimize the spread of the virus then

use an online scanner like http://www.pandasoftware.com/ActiveScan/
and install
AVG free http://free.grisoft.com
Avast free http://www.avast.com or
FProt
or another av system that works,
Macafee and Norton are definitely counterindicated

system restore should be reset to the maximum disk space allowable, the tweaks espoused by many, of reducing disk space for system restore causes problems like this.
resetting the restore size will not magically replace missing system restore points, they are gone, but will give you more days worth of repair time in future, it will happen again.
