Question about Computers & Internet

I've had a WRT54G router for years, but only recently have found others encroaching on my line. When I use the IP address given in my manual to access the web utility so I can password protect it, that URL is asking for a password. But I don't have one. If I reset, do I lose all of my settings?

Try the default password for the router. It is often printed on the bottom of it. For linksys it is usually "admin" or "linksys". Check this page for other possible default passwords. Search the page for Linksys to get you in the right direction. http://www.phenoelit-us.org/dpl/dpl.html When you have logged into the router you should setup the Wireless Protection. The best choice is WPA2 with AES. Choose a password that is at least 8 characters long and don't use your name, phone number, or anything personal. Try and use letters and numbers - use can use upper case and lower case letters - but don't forget that the password is case sensitive.

You would lose all of your settings. However the default password should have a blank username and the password should be "admin". Give it a whirl

How to resolve Belkin N150 conflicting with Linksys WRT54G

Both the routers are having the same default IP addresses that's why they are conflicting.
Put only one router in the switch connected the a PC on the same LAN.
Open your browser and put the default IP address (like for most of the routers 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1), hit enter and give the login ID and password (in most of the cases, admin/password orv admin/admin), go t configuration> IP settings> Static IP Mode> Change the IP from 192.168.x.1 to 192.168.x.2 (or any other other number except 1 and <254).
Save and reboot.
Now enjoy both routers plugged in simultaneously in the same LAN. :)

I have a smartbook and i need to know who give out an ip address, is it linksys or the cable company?

The wireless router issues an IP address to your all your computers.
The ISP issues an IP address to your cable modem which is connected to your wireless router and the wireless router re-issues a local IP addresses to all the computers on your local network so all your computers on your network can access the Internet and to each other cpmputer.

Im tryig to piggyback my wrt54g router to another part of the house. I have a cable coming from my linksys e1000 n router which is my main router. When i plug the cable into the 54g i can access the router...

What is the IP address of the E1000 router ?
If the IP address of E1000 router is 192.168.1.1, Then change the IP address of WRT54G router to 192.168.1.2. Connect the Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port of E1000 router to the Ethernet port of WRT54G router ( port 1 of E1000 to port 1 of WRT54g). Disable the DHCP server.

You can do it in a different way also.
If the IP address of E1000 is 192.168.1.1. then change the IP address of the WRT54g to 192.168.2.1. Do not disable the DHCP server of the WRT54G. Connect the E1000 to the Internet port of WRT54G.

My hardwired computer gets on line but the other two wireless can't. I've reset the router several times but no luck. Checked all the connection still no luck.

Check if the router is assigning IP addresses to the Wireless devices. Also se if you hard-wired desktop has been assigned an IP address manually. Else try to assign IP's to wireless devices manually (Depends on your setup)

Please rate if helpful.

Thanks

Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router Issue Allows 1 Computer at a time

Your router my not be DCHP enabled or it might not be assigning the IP addresses either.

I would do a reset and start all over with your security settings and see if that works. Worst case scenario you could always turn security off when your parents or others are there.

Public ip address

Im not sure if there is such a thing as a public ip adress. The ip address is automatically given out by your router. (192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.101 ect.)

Cannot connect with ATT modem

Connect your pc to the ATT box. If online, check the ip address of the computer. If the ip address is 192.168.1.x, then you just have to change the router ip address. The wrt54g ip is 192.168.1.1, it may be having conflict with the ATT modem. Change the wrt54g ip to 192.168.2.1

Good Luck

Pls. help

When dealing with a router there are multiple IP address scenarios, on the internet service provider's (ISP) side you can have either a static or dynamic IP address. I believe most routers by default are set to accept a dynamic IP address from the ISP. Where the ISP permits the router can also assign IP addresses to each device that attaches to it allowing a single ISP connection to be shared by multiple computers. This is also generally the default for routers purchased for home use and the wireless adapters also accept the dynamic IP assignment from the Router. With the logical discussion out of the way I believe you wish to discuss the physical connections to be established. Again this is a generic discussion not knowing your specific environment. port types - I will refer to phone ports (technically RJ-11 either two or 4 wires (these cables plug snugly into phone jacks and modem connectors) and ethernet ports (technically RJ-45 which are 8 wires and to big to fit in phone and modem ports) First you have a connection provided by the ISP for DSL this is your phone line where filters are attached to your voice phones and an unfiltered phone connection goes into the DSL modem's phone port often with an ethernet port. If you have cable generally the cable company provides a connection to a cable modem which has an ethernet or other port to connect to your system. The ethernet port generally connects to the wan port (generally separate) of your wrt54g router with an ethernet cable. Computers can be attached to the wrt54g router using the 4 ethernet ports in a group provided they have an ethernet port too. Wireless cards connect to the wrt54g router through radio waves and with antennas on the router and often internal to the wireless adapter (often embedded in a notebook computer today). These details are enclosed with your ISP's instructions and the Linksys router instructions often with pictures to help the explanation.

How do i unblock stuff on my WRT54G?

i doubt it is blocked, but you will need to enter the ip address and dns addreses manually as the automatic ip address never works. Use the psp ip address as the next one up from your pc and use the dns and gateway addresses as the same address of your router.
