SOURCE: Lower spray arm does not spin on my bosch dishwasher

Sounds like you may have put it together wrong. I would just take the arm back off and make sure that it all fits together right. A little tip for you too. Dishwashers will clog up all the time with water deposits and food gunk. There are all those expensive cleaners out on the market but the best and cheapest way to clean them is with white vinegar. Simply pour it into the dishwasher when it is empty and run it on the pots and pans setting on hot. Always make sure to pre heat your water too by running the sink till it starts steaming. This will make it easier for your dishwasher to heat the water. If you don't, then when you turn on the dishwasher it starts to fill with cold water and has to heat it on its own. Run the vinegar though through it at least once a month or so and it will extend the life of the dishwasher. Hope this helps. Just try taking that arm back off though and putting it back together making sure everything is fitting properly. If you have any other questions feel free to ask me. Good luck.

SOURCE: want to remove the spray arm and clean the filter

Hi,

Below is a link showing how to clean out the sump area below the spray arms. If you want to clean the top filter when taking it apart, vinegar works to dissolve a lot of the deposits.

Where is the filter on model MDBD820AWW

The filter is under the lower washer arm. A diagram of the pump and motor assembly is available from Sears parts direct: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Maytag-Parts/Dishwasher-Parts/Model-MDBD820AWW/3048/0130000/M0303313/00006?blt=06&prst=&shdMod= . The filter is part 6 in the diagram. To get at the filter, you need to unscrew the center piece that holds the wash arm and then lift the arm out of the way. Next lift off the filter guard and then the filter assembly (there is another screw holding a cover on the filter itself). I believe the seal fits in the center of the filter assembly.

In my experience, you should note how tightly the lower wash arm is assembled. When you reassemble the unit, tighten to just that amount. (If you overtighten it, the wash arm will not turn and completely clean the dishes.)

I hope this helps.

(whose household had to replace the seal of a slightly different dishwasher and overtightened the assembly - three weeks waiting for the parts led to forgetting the key detail.)

Motor making loud noise. checked filter and rotating arm - no problems. seems to wash dishes or at least have water in during cycle . . .

Hi
Seems the noise is from foriegn debris( ie.chicken bone of pistachio shell, toothpicks) getting into macerator/chopper assembly, wouldnt panic just yet, give it a fewloads to try to clear itself, a few screws leading down through the top of motor assembly (under lower spray arm should give you access to assembly if needed.
OR
there is a filter in the pump area that is probably plugged which is affecting your pressure during wash and rinse. It needs to be cleaned. It is located below the lower spray arm ,you need a torx screw driver to get at it.
Thanks for contacting fixya.com

There is a kind of grinding noise.

The most common reason for a grinding noise on an LG dishwasher is debris getting stuck (rather than ground up in the build in disposal.)

To resolve, remove the approximately 9 screws on the filter assembly in the sump area. You will need to remove the lower spray arm to get the filter out. Grab the spray arm and lift up and out.

Use a flashlight to inspect the entire area, especially in the rear area that has the valve that alternated sending water from the lower spray arm to the upper spray arms. I bet you fill find something lodged in there. Please be careful of broken glass as it can be almost invisible in water that remains in the sump area.

Please post back here what you find, OK?

LG dishwasher is whistling a high pitch tune during washing

It is difficult to be specific without knowing the model number of your LG dishwasher.

On newer LG models, the most common cause of noises is from debris stuck in the lower filter assembly area. Recommend you remove the lower spray arm and the screws that holds the filter sub-assembly in. After removing the assembly, inspect with a flashlight to search for any debris that is jammed in that area. Also rinse out the filter as best possible to remove any thing you see in there. Reassemble and test.

The filter assembly in my LG dishwasher is always getting dirty.

Hi Jim,
Make sure that all the spray arms are clean and not blocked firstly
Pour a half a cup of white vinegar straight into the bottom (sump) of the dishwasher and run it on fast wash.
The vinegar has a small acidic base which breaks down fats etc.
This may fix the problem, or there could be another problem. It would be hard to tell without looking at the unit itself.

Dirt left on dishes on top tray; bottom tray washes fine

The broken bottom arm is probably preventing any water / water under pressure to get to the upper arm.
After you replace the lower arm, you should have much better cleaning in the top shelf.
While you are in there replacing the lower arm, recommend you remove the filter under it and clean the filter and any debris you find. Be careful of broken glass!
Good Luck!

I have a kenmore 665 dishwasher where the spary arms do not spin.

  • First, check water level. Start machine, wait until the machine begins main wash. Open the door, the water level should be just below the heater element. If too low replace inlet valve.
  • If you can't hear the wash motor running or is just humming, the motor may be bad.
  • To check if the food chopper is blocked or broken;
  1. Remove lower spray arm by holding the arm and rotating the spray arm retainer.
  2. In the back of the tub, unclip or remove the screw from the upper spray arm supply tube.
  3. Rotate the lower spray arm support to the right while disconnecting the supply tube from it.
  4. Remove the four torx screws from the sump cover, remove assembly.
  5. There may be a primary filter in the left side of the sump, if so, remove the torx screw and the filter.
  6. On the right side there is the chopper assembly cover. Remove the torx screw and cover to expose the chopper.

Hope everything goes well for you,

Regards

Richard

Small plastic top and mid spray arm do not turn, bottom does

decrete, you want to get down to the chopper and screen. If the screen is plugged up with gunk there won't be enough pressure to reach the top spray arms. Check out the posted pics. Remove the lower spray arm. Rotate the rear feed arm to the right until it unsnaps from the tube going up the back. See the 4 torq screws holding the filter on. Remove them. Lift the filter up. Now you will see the chopper inlet cover. 1 torq screw holding it in. Lift it up and there's the chopper and screen. Catriver..post back
