Question about Intel Packard Bell A5340 PC Notebook

2 Answers

I have a Packard Bell laptop that is 2 months old, it froze the other day and then would only start in safe mode. I have tried to put it back to the factory settings by starting recovery when you first power up the laptop. (ALT and F10) It has been saying restore process - please wait a moment for the last 9 hours now - I have just left it runing as it has been so slow I thought it may need time if it had got a virus. What do you think I should do?

Hi thanks for your response - i took the battery out then turned it back on, It gives me the option to press F2. From here it then gives me the BIOS screen - there does not seem to be any boot manager, Is that what you are talking about?

Well you should take the batterry out and wait a couple of seconds then put it. Back in and turn it on. Once turned on down at the bottom it might say press one of the F buttons well which ever one it says to go to the boot manager click that key and once there find something that is called (FORMAT) formating will erase everything and put it back to its original factory settings but if you cant find it there then turn your computer off and then turn it back on but this time let the computer start up the whole way and as it starts try to look for things that say start in safe mode, start in safe mode with networking and start windows reguraly if you see these click start reguraly and if you dont see this go in to safe mode as you usually do and then click start then click computer then right click the hard drive and then click FORMAT and then go from there

The laptop sounds like it has a hard drive issue, you have attempted the recovery without any success. I think you should take the unit back where it was bought because there is nothing more you can do without breaching warranty.

At the moment I am currently teaching English in China, so I need to really sort the problem out myself . I have gave it to one of the IT teachers in the school but he didnt seem to know what was wrong with it either. Is it something that you can fix on your own? Or do i need to take it to a shop over here? Any information you can provide will be much appreciated.

I think it would in your best interest to take it to a service shop, and I would encourage you to have them make a recovery disc. I find trying to recover the operational system from the hard drive almost never works, at least with windows on disc you can put it on a brand new hardware if it comes down to it.
