Show's absolutely nothing. I can see the power light is on and feel a slight vibration on the front of the laptop but it does nothing. I press f8 when the power comes on but nothing happens.

  • rakorcok Mar 17, 2011

I don't understand . I took the battery out. Held the power button down for 30 sec. loaded the battery and turned it back on but still got the same thing. Did I do what you had mentioned or did I do something wrong.

    Still nothing.

When you turn On the computer, does it show any kind of writing on it for a second or two? Like press F1 or F12 or anything like that?

  • Sahil Uppal Mar 17, 2011

Have you tried getting into the BIOS? that didnt help either?

    Take the power OFF
    Battery OFF
Press and Hold the Power Button for 30 seconds.

then connect the battery only and try to load it.

  • Sahil Uppal Mar 17, 2011

there should be no source of electricity to the laptop. No Power chord, No Battery.
then press the and hold the power for 30 seconds.

Then just connect the battery to the computer. And try turning it ON!

have you tried booting the computer with the bootable disk?

Gateway MT6840 unexpectedly shut down and wouldn't

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Dell XPS 630i on start up goes into Configuration Updates...Fails and states "Updates were not configured correctly. reverting changes". Will shut down randomly.

If your computer is shutting down randomly and not because it is doing a post update restart, it may be worth giving the interior a clean as it could be overheating from dust build up in the fans and heatsink. Before you do that make sure you use a soft paint brush and that the power is disconnected from the computer. Be gentle with the brush as the capacitors are delicate and important.

Not configuring update correctly...reverting changes

You didn't give your make, model of laptop, or your OS? What updates? Did you reboot your machine? Shut down, unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot. Sometimes if you have change the OS on a machine you will get erroneous updates. Sometimes due to other conditions you will get a error message that may help to ID the problem.

Hi follis_valpn,

If you are trying to install the Windows Update 937287, you will get this (configuring updates stage 3 of 3. 0% complete) message. If you are getting the message even after restarting the Computer, you may need to repair the Windows (using the installation Disc) or restore the Computer to an earlier date.

First you can try restarting the Computer in the Safe Mode and do the System Restore. To access the Safe Mode, please press and hold the F8 Key whlie restarting the Computer. Then, please click "Start", "All Programs", "Accessories", "System Tools" and "System Restore". Then, please select a restore point (Date) when the Computer was working correctly. This should restore the Computer to the selected date and fix the issue.

The, alternative option is to use the Windows Installation Disc and perform the "Repair" option.

The issue will be fixed after you perform any of the above steps. To avoid the issue in future (whlie doing the Windows Update), please download and install the Windows Update 937287 from Microsoft Download Center separately.

Below is the link to obtain the Update.

Hope this helps..

Good Luck!

Thanks for using Fixya.

There may be bad sector on your hard disk, n probably that bad sectors holds the vital windows file.. due to this the windows is not able to load.. format the hard disk, and reinstall windows..

I have an acer aspire laptop, when i start it up its says configuring updates stage 3 of 3 0% complete then it will shut down come back on say the same again and shut down again. it will keep on doing this

Maybe you could try the last known good configuration. When the laptop is starting up, wait until the acer screen disappears and then tap F8 on the keyboard before the windows screen comes up. You should get a black screen with some options that say safe mode. The fourth or so option on the list will be "Last Known Good Configuration". The computer should try and load windows. Hopefully that will restore the machine before the update.

If it works it would be a good idea to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and fully update your laptop. This will download the update manually instead of doing it with automatic updates.

My computer keeps restarting itself

  1. Start laptop
  2. When the laptops Logo page closes, start to press F8
  3. You should get a Windows Start screen
  4. If you get a Windows Logo page (the kind you normally get when Windows loads, then reset it and start again.
  5. On the Windows Start page select "Last known good configuration" and press enter twice
Hope that solves it for you =)
