Question about Hitachi EC12 Portable Electric 2hp Air Compressor, Oil Lubricated

1 Answer

After 60 to 90 minutes use the compressor would not pump up to any pressure higher than 40 psi. Let it cool down 1 to 2 hours, and it still would not go higher than 40 psi. Today, I pulled it out of the truck, plugged it in and it pumped right up to 125 psi. The 40 psi trick is a real problem when we are nailing off roof shingles. What could cause this?

Compressor runs but only pumps 40 psi

Check your regulator to make sure its set to maximum. When was the last time you drained the tank, it may be full of water.

Can I get 80 psi with dials set at 40 psi

this compressor should be able to fill your tires to 80 psi. Look for a pressure switch and adjust it so the motor shuts off at a higher pressure. Do not exceed 100 psi.

Problem with pump?

The pump pressure switch should be checked to see what the ON-OFF pressure is set at. Typically the pressure switch is set for 20-40 psi, or 30-50 psi. The pressure tank should be purged as well. With the pump OFF, and the tank drained of water, the air valve on the tank should read approximately 2 psi below the "on pressure". So if the system operates at 20-40, the tank should be pre-charged to 18 psi. If water escapes from the air valve, the internal bladder in the tank is ruptured, and the tank needs to be replaced. A tire air gauge is used to measure the pressure in the tank after the water is emptied from the tank.. A tire air pump or a compressor is used to charge the tank. if a compressor is used, be careful not to over-inflate the tank, as this may cuase the bladder to rupture.

Repair help

If it has an automatic pressure regulator ( cuts out at set pressure) adjust the pressure higher. They are only meant to pump up tyres to a max set pressure probably at the 40 psi as most tyres only need 35 psi max.

2004 VW new Beetle A/C won't cool. When turning on compressor it doesn't quite load the engine down any. It was cooling but only sitting still. Once I started driving the air got warmer and

speed up engine with air on and see if compressor turns off. if it does then it is low pressure. if it has electric radiator fans they should be on when the ac is on. if they dont work then it will make the pressure higher

Im here in afghanistan, big fridge isnt working. evac down no leaks, fill up with the prescibed 13 oz 134. No cooling activity whatsoever. Compressor is on. Only 90 psi low side w/ 13 oz. Add more- can...

90 psi for 134a is to high, should be around 40 psi. the 140 that you are seeing is the test pressures for that side of the system and does not reflect operation pressures. sounds like it is over charged. hope this helps.

125 psi sears air compressor only goes up to 40psi and will not stop running I've replaced pressure switch and manifold.

Hi,
If the unit will only pump to 40 psi. then here are a few things I would check...

Check the air filter to make sure it is clean so air can be pulled in easily...
Check the relief valve to make sure that it has not gone bad and is releasing the air pressure or leaking at 40 psi...
Make sure the any hoses or nozzles are tight and not leaking...

If all of this checks out then the compressor has an internal problem such as bad rings or valves that will keep it from pumping to a higher pressure...
The pump will need to be torn apart to find the exact cause of the problem... and many times the correct replacement parts will not be available to rebuild those compressors..

Replaced ignition module, spark plug wires, distributor cap, fuel filter, and thermostat. car starts then after a while you turn it off and try to restart it, but all it does is crank, will not turn over....

COULD BE FUEL PUMP.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 40 - 47 PSI. WITH NEW FUEL FILTER. IF FUEL PRESSURE OKAY.YOUR SPARK PLUGS COULD BE FOULING OUT BY LEAKING FUEL INJECTORS.CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS BY ADDING A CAN OF SEAFOAM TO 3/4 TO FULL TANK OF GAS.WHEN YOU HOOK UP FUEL PRESSURE TESTER WITH IGNITION SWITCH ON ENGINE OFF FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD READ 40 PSI. TURN OFF IGNITION SWITCH IF FUEL PRESSURE DROPS FAST YOUR FUEL PUMP CHECK VALVE BAD.IF FUEL PRESSURE DROPS SLOWLY IN TEN MINUTES TIME FUEL INJECTORS IS LEAKING A NEED CLEANING.INJECTORS SPRAYING TIP CLOGGED WITH CARBON BUILD UP CAUSING THEM TO LEAK DOWN WHEN ENGINE OFF.

The pressure gauge doesnt go higher than 40 50 psi on dial, pressure seems to go higher than whats on the gauge as i turn the pressure knob. I have restarted it many times and lowered and raised the knob...

Try a separate gauge on the outlet line, like a tyre pressure gauge, and see what that reads. If it differs from you compressor gauge, the gauge is faulty or the needle is stuck, in either case the gauge will need to be looked at or replaced. You can probably pick up another gauge of the same size and scale quite reasonably and engineer it to fit if you cannot get the same gauge.

I SEEM TO BE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY TANK PRESSURE. MY TANK PRESSURE SITS AT ABOUT 80 PSI AND THE REGULATED PRESSURE SITS AT ABOUT 70 PSI,IT DOES NOT GO ANY HIGHER, IS THIS NORMAL AND IF NOT WHAT DO I...

The C6110 is an oil free air compressor and has a piston ring that needs to be replace as part of regular service.
When the piston ring is worn out it will just keep pumping but it will not go over 80 psi or so because to much ir is passing by the ring.

Here is a parts diagram:
http://shoppingcart.msservicecompany.com/msservice_net/product_files/C6110/C6110_PL.pdf

It sounds like the piston ring DAC-308 needs to be replaced. You can also replace the complete top end.
This is a pretty easy repair and can be done in less that 1 hour.
