Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Singer sewing machine, Model 385 12314990. I cannot find how to lower the feed dogs. I read another suggestion about taking off the side plate and the feed dog latch is behind the machine; however, this is not the case for my machine. I've looked all over and under the machine and cannot discover where they might have put the latch. The only place I didn't look was behind the bobbin holder. I just didn't think they would put a latch there. Linda

You probably have a plastic plate to put over the feed dogs, I think you have a Kenmore sewing machine not a Singer because of your model number. If, still can't do it, take it to Sears sewing machine department and have them show you. Most of them are really nice and it is free.

I don't know this machine but in most machines the feed dogs are normally lowered from a switch beside the bobbin case behind the door of the bobbin case.

Feed dog on singer m756 won't pop up

If this is a combo embroidery and sewing machine, the feed dogs have a switch to raise or lower them. If this is just a sewing machine, your feed dog linkage may be broken.

I purchase a free motion feet but it says to do so you have to lower the feed dog does the 7422 have a button to lower the feed dog and where it is located because i could not find onew can i do free...

You don't actually have to lower your feed dogs, lots of people FMQ without lowering, or you can tap a small piece of heavy paper (like an index card) over your dogs and poke a hole in the paper for your needle to go through which effectively takes the feed dogs out of commission too.

Lower feed dogs

had a quick look at the manual for this at www.singer.com and I'd say your machine doesn't have the function to lower the feed dogs, many don't. It shows a darning plate which goes over the feed dogs to sew on buttons so if you are wanting to do free motion embroidery or similar, then use this plate to cover up the feed dogs.

I have a singer 543 the feed dogs won't move.

I suggest getting out your manual and looking up lower and raising the feed dogs. When the feed dogs are lowered they don't move. You could have lowered them without realising it.

Singer Sewing Machine model #2638 Does not feed fabric

Here is a link to page 22 of the manual. It shows you where to flip the lever to raise the feed dogs. If your feed dogs are not grabbing fabric your feed dogs are lowered.

Feed dogs will not go up after being lowered even though I turn dial to the correct position

I have the same problem and had to resolve it with a work around until someone comes up with a fix. I manually force the feed dogs up by taking the small singer screwdriver, placing it on the bottom of the feed dogs then pressing them upward.

How do I raise and lower the feed dog on my singer 8280??

On your Singer, you don't actually raise / lower the feed dog. Instead you attach a "darning plate" (which should have come with the machine) which covers the feed dogs so they do not come in contact with the fabric. See a page from the owner's manual using this link within my web site: http://www.sewvac1.com/Singer3080_Feed_Drop.pdf
