I bought a used 52'' phillips magnavox PTV835 model 9P5034 C103 recently and have had problems with the screen getting about half its normal size. It has a, kind of, bouncing effect as it gets smaller. Although, when the tv starts to "warm up" it seems to get a little better. No sound problems yet! Im pretty handy, any repair tips?

If its shrinking this is and easy fix...Goto the site www.TvRepairKits.com and get there shrinking video kit for your model. As for the colors they are likely just washed out which is due to the CRT coolant. The same site has repalcement CRT fluid for your projection TV also.
I never had this problem on this particular unit.....But it is in the large signal board, the one with the flyback, that is troubled. A bad cap [look for high voltage [160v or 250v with 1 to 4.7MF] Check for loose grounds around heatsinks or power resistors or a leaky horizontal transistor or regulator. These are good places to start. And don't over look diodes! These are my ideas!!!!
deflection problem very common on that model. You can get a new LSB board at the following link, leave them a email and they will respond quickly with a price quote for the LSB if they dont have it listed already, they are cheaper than anywhere else for replacement boards for phillips, RCA and GE. Heres the link. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
I would have to say that the television is not worth fixing. The problem is most likely to be in the CRT, (cathode ray tube), or in the electronics that fire the tube. with the prices as they are today, you are better off replacing your TV with a used or new one.
Recently had same issue and after EXTENSIVE SEARCHING found all three ICs and replaced them. TV works perfectly, also, replaced convergence ICs at same time. The one 16-pin IC for the regulation ckt. is $49.95 the other 16-pin IC is $19.95 and the 8-pin opto is about $10. This price is for a minimum qty. and must have a business for quote.
You can get the actual remote control for that model at the following link. If your not sure which one it is just leave them a email with your model number and they will respond quickly. Heres the link. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
It could be the flyback losing resistace in its windings. What is the chassis number I should have the service manual for it. Phillips/magnavox is hard to cross reference without the actual chassis number.
You will have to get the original remote I,m afraid. There are not any universal remotes except the programmable learning type remotes that will work those functions for you. You can get an original replacement remote from here
