I have the same problem. I left the room, came back in and the screen was black and no sound. Light blinks 4 times.
I unplugged it for 12 hours. I pushed every button on remote and on cable remote. I tried changing channels -- nothingI have the same problem. I left the room, came back in and the screen was black and no sound. Light blinks 4 times.

I was watchin' tv for before I went to bed and it all of a sudden turned off. I thought my wife set the sleep timer, but it wouldn't turn back on. I have noticed it did take a while for the tv to come on after hitting the power button.

Same problem here... I was looking to upgrade anyway, but I wanted tokeep the old TV too. Anyone knows what those 4 blinks are, and how expensive is to fix?

same here.... wooo strange how all our tv's (kv-27s42) seem to be dying at the same time... My guess is the power supply is shot, probably from that loud degaussing noise at every startup... but who knows... : ( only about 10 years from this one.

In standby mode (red led on/after the led stops from blinking), press "Display", "5", Volume (-)", "Power on" on the remote control in sequence, self diagnostic screen will be display, let me know the what is on the screen to diagnose where the fault came from.
You can try unplugging it for a while and then plugging it back in, but according to the manual, the standby LED:
Lights up red when your TV is in PC power saving mode. If the LED blinks in red continuously, this may indicate the TV needs servicing.
(Operating Instructions, Page 22)
Please intimate exact model of Sony TV and how many times LED blinks as there would be 3 second pause between blinks so count blinks and let me know. This LED blink is an error code that will tell me problem section in TV. Thanks.
HI, this is the result of an unstable power sector in this unit. the fly back is malfunctioning and, you will need to replace it asap. i will list the part number below and a link to a site as well. you can purchase this part on-line if you wish.
FBTASSY NX-4521//X4 Sony Part Number: 1-453-310-11
Try to remove the vertical IC sometimes it become Shorted causing the B+ to drop. after removing try to switch on back check the B+ if ok and the LED not blinking then change the vertical IC.
On older Sony, sometimes a power surge causes the set to be in shut down mode. Try unplugging for 5 minutes and then plug in and try. This many times will fix.
The blinking should be in a pattern of a count, pause, count. That is an indication of the problem circuit. Can you post that count please? That info will allow me to give you possible defective parts and costs for the repair.
it is a bad fan. it also could be a power supply. Quite often the real problem is dirt clogging up the fan(s) to the
point that they need to be replaced. Operation of the set in a dirty
environment is not a good idea
