SOURCE: Blades do not spin fast enough to cut grass

If you got the right oem belt,ta\han you can look at the end where the cable attachs to spring and you should see a double nut adjustment loosen nuts and adjust to put more tension on the belt when you put lever into gear for blades to turn then retighten them .

John Deere six 46 son hit rock and blades cut for about 2 min then stopped and won't come back on mower runs fine

With the mower turned OFF check the blades to see if they aren't bent and if it spins freely. There should be resistance when you hand turn the blades. A bent blade can jam and lock up the drive system. If the blade spins freely and has no resistance check the drive belts from the blade pulley to the gears that run the blades. Hopefully you have just had a drive belt come loose or break, a reasonably cheap and easy fix. If the belts are OK you will need a mower mechanic to look at the gearing for the blades.

I have a poulan pro PR1842STC; the blades won't stop turning after I disengage the mower belt

On the top of the mower deck, there is a spring that will pull to disengage the blade idler pulley. At the same time, it will release two springloaded arms with brakes that press on the pulleys at the top of the blade spindles. On top of the mower deck at the back, the two spring loaded arms may be held out of the braking position by a cam. Make sure the cam is free to allow the blade brakes to activate when you disengage the blades. If arms are out of alignment, or the parts are too worn, the blade brakes won't move and the blades keep spinning, even after you have disengaged and the safety switch is deactivated. This is a dangerous situation and should be fixed soon. Good luck.

I started the mower but the blades will not turn. I shut it off and was able to manually turn the blades by hand. I also was able to turn the belt wheel under the engine and have it turn the blades. ...

Most all riders have a safety seat switch now and they do malfuction alot. They are under the seat and are ez to replace most of the time. First look for a wire that is grounding due to rubbing a sharp object. That can be fixed with black tape

Good luck!!!

Blades became disengaged -- won't engage

Sometimes the belt can jump off one pulley and cause the problem, follow the belt around all the pulleys and see if it came off one.there may be a belt loosening lever on the lh side of the mower deck, if so unlock it and reroute the belt around the pulley. If you need to replace the belt the manual has a good description on how to do it and should take 30 min with only a couple of tools.
